Finger toothbrush?

Hi. I'm almost at my wit's end with trying to brush my 8 month old's teeth (well, not quite, he's just got 1 toothette, there's not enough to be called a tooth!). Our health visitor said we should start brushing his teeth even before they come through, to get him into a good routine, which, being obedient first time parents, we did. But recently he's started pushing the brush out of his mouth with his tongue. A friend of mine suggested using a finger toothbrush instead. I was wondering 1) Are they as effective? and 2) How often do they need replacing? Thanks :-)

dont know how often it needs replacing its definately worth a try! beware tho- just coz he aint got many if any teeth it still hurts quite a bit when they chomp down! its important to get them into a routine with it sure but these are only his first set so it dont matter that much `if you only manage like 20 seconds if that of brushing them each day. my daughter has gone through phases several times of hating having her teeth brushed, usually when she was teething. now shes 21 months old she loves to do it herself! she even reminds me she must brush her teeth right NOW mummy! good luck! x x
