Baby weaning to solids - When did it change?

I have an age gap of 6 years between my youngest and second child, with the older 2 it was recommended babies get weaned at 16 weeks, now reading the baby books it says 26 weeks!? When did this happen and does anybody know why?

I started weaning my two once they showed they were ready. I think as the mother you know what they need and can make that jus=dgement. I hate the baby books for the same reason, they always wanna make u think ur wrong. I think a lot of why they tell you to wait is because the digestive system isn't develoed enough but my two are doing fine and so are all the babies i know who've been fed early! x

Hmm im not really sure, but i never waited until 6 1/2 months; my older girls were weaned at about 5 1/2 months. Mostly because they needed to put on weight - never had any problems weaning them, asked the HV and everything and she said it was fine.
Apparently your supposed to wean them when they start taking interest in your food, like watching you eat and everything; not sure if this is true, but worked with my kids!
Tbh hun, go with your instincts, thats one reason i hate reading baby books and everything - things always change, and more often that not it says your doing it 'wrong'.
Hope it helps, ask your HV :) xx
