Still not crawling!!!

My son is nine months old and is not crawling. He makes attempts to crawl but ends up just rolling around on the floor, is this normal?

My daughter is 20 months and still isn't walking (second is due in Sept, so she needs to hurry up) She didn't crawl until she was 14 months as she has hyper mobility and couldn't hold herself up. I doubt v much that you son has this, but I just wanted to say be grateful that he isn't moving. My friends babies all moved early and although they could move about, mine would sit and play quietly and developed so many other skills, whereas theirs would be off exploring and destroying. Plus I always knew where mine was. Having had a child that has struggled with movement, dont be in a hurry to wish movement to come as i am realising now all children catch up with each other in the end.

Perfectly normal!! He is still learning how his body works and learning to take control of his arms and legs. You can help him by placing him on his tummy with some of his toys just out of reach and encourage him to move towards them, cars and other wheeled toys are great for this – he can even push them away himself and learn to follow them.

Do remember that all children are different and move in different ways – some children never crawl but go straight to standing and walking, some bottom shuffle and some are perfectly happy rolling! So if after all your efforts at helping him to crawl he just doesn’t get it don’t worry. In a couple of months he will probably be strong enough to stand and may well be a child who cruises early (cruising is when a child stands and moves around a room by holding on to different pieces of furniture). As long as he is happy, eating well and continuing to grow there really is nothing to worry about.

I keep being told that boys are just "lazy" and I do wonder but I am so glad this is normal. Thank You!

I am a nursery nurse and trust me you have nothing to worry about. If he is making attempts to crawl it won't be long! Then you will wish he had never started crawling!!
