Working Mum - Missing My Son!!!

I am a full time working Mum and at first it was nice to have adult company and have a break from motherhood but lately I can't seem to concentrate on my work because I am missing my son so badly. He is only in the nursery on site but lately he has started to get upset when I leave him in the morning. I try to make up for it when I collect him but I only get a few hours as he is tired by 8:30pm and goes to bed.

I normally work Mon-Thur 8:30-5:30 and Fri 8:30-11:00 so we have the rest of the day together but since the nursery has changed it's opening hours for the summer I have to work Mon- Fri 9:00-5:00 for two months. The nursery are really great and I can pop down when ever I want to but I just want to be with him more and more as he is getting older, feel like they get the first of everything when it should be me, does that make sense.
Oh I see - thats unfortunate about the summer hours. I can see where you are coming from with regards to the nursery staff getting the first of everything. I really don't know what I can say to make you feel better about the situation. I'm due to give birth in 9 days and have decided to take up childminding whilst my little girl is young so that I can be with her but still earn some money, plus I love working with children, so I know i'm really lucky. Would a change of job/career be something you would consider?

Your sons age is a typical age to start getting upset when you leave him. Believe me - they soon stop crying when parents have left - often before you have even got to the car! Have you talked to your son's keyworker about your anxieties? I'm sure she will be able to put your mind at rest. Would it be possible for you to cram your hours into a 4 day week so that you get an extra day with your son? This might make you feel a bit better.
