I have just been to see my nurse for a check up and said i was rubbish at taking my pill at the right times and how i would like to think about another form of contraception and she sujested having the contraceptive implant. I have just been reading up on it and it does sound painful. Has anyone had this or can anyone sujest another good form of contraception.
hiya, just going through some old conversations and found this one. thought i'd reply as i've had the implant put in in the past, as i couldn't get on with taking the pill - made me really sick. they give you a small anaesthetic and then put it in. its 2mm wide and 40mm long (only know this cuz i work in a chemist and dispense them). it can last up to 3 years dependent upon your weight and size (the larger you are the less time it works for). when they take it out they give you another anaesthetic and make a tiny incision and pull it out. unfortunately i only had it in for about 3 months as again...it made me feel really sick.

have you though about the evra patch? looks like a nicotine patch that you apply once a week for 3 weeks, then have a patch free week.

sorry if you've already found a suitable form of contraception, just thought i'd let you know what i knew about them.

best wishes, Danni x

i have the contreceptive implant, the nurse told me i may have heavy irregular periods for at least 6 months after having it fitted, wich i did but now have a normal monthly cycle,it was not at all painfull having it fitted and have not yet had it removed so dont know what thats like yet.i have put on a bit of weight with it too! it is a good form of contraceptive though.but some1 i know did get pregnant on it,nothing is 100% affective.

I had an implant i found it brilliant and will defiantly use it again. It was just the same as having your blood taken when they put it in and took it out they used a local anaesthetic at stung a little but nothing you wont be able to cope with. I found that straight away a had no periods or PMS ! I didn’t put on any weight or have any side effects And it lasts for 3 years or more so no need to worry about anything until then although they can be taken out before then , its only the size of a small hair grip and really thin you wont know its there. I found this method much better than the pill and injections . Ask your doctor for a leaflet on it to see if it is suitable for you as I don’t know if everyone can have one. Its 99% effective and it doesn’t affect breastfeeding.

I think my friend had the implant. Will find out if she did and ask her for info on it.
