10 month old sleeping constantly

MY LO is 10 months old and sleeps from 6.30pm to 8/9am. Fab-yes, but then he also has up to 3 or 4 naps a day of up to 1 and a half hous each and on occasion has been known to sleep for 2 and a half hours in 1 stretch. It doesn't affect him night time sleep and he gets grumpy if we don't put him down so he's def tired-what is going on? He has always slept a lot so not to do with teething or illness but getting more obvious as all his friends are now dropping their naps down to 1.

hi hun, my 1yr old is similar!

she sleeps 7:30pm - 7:30am which is great!

then she'll have an hr or so at 10am

then at 12:30 she falls asleep, no matter what she's been doing! she then will happily sleep till about 4!

but when she is awake, she's a nutter, running around, singing, climbing up things, falling off things! so ive just taken the opinion that she sleeps so much because she is soooo active!

My 10 month old also sleeps all through the night and all day. She sleeps 7:30 to 7:30. She wakes up for one hour, goes back to sleep at 8:30, then wakes up at 9 or 10...she eats then goes back to sleep for one or two hours, then is awake for 2 hours. Then back to sleep again for 2 hours, then awake for about 3......I was really concerned, because my son wasn't like that at all! He's 3 and a half now...and NEVER naps. He stopped napping at 18 months (unless he was sick)...anyway...as long as your baby is lively while he/she is awake, then it shouldn't be a problem.

As your little boy has always slept a lot, it is probably nothing to worry about, especially if he is bright and alert when he is awake, has a good appetite, growing and developing normally. However, adding up the hours he is asleep, comes to about 18 hours a day, which does sound a bit excessive for a 10 month old baby. It may be worth having him seen by your GP to make sure that there is not a problem. I don’t want you to worry as there probably isn’t anything wrong and he is just a baby who needs a lot of sleep, but just air on the side of caution and have him checked out. My son was like this until he was about 16 months old he was sleeping 7.30 till 7.30 and was having two 2 hour naps a day. Just enjoy it you'll miss it belive me. He's 3 1/2 now and has only just stopped his afternoon nap don't worry though he still sleeps 7.30 till 7.30 lol. If your still worried ask your health visitor x

don't worry about it all babies are different. My Lo used to sleep alot and when i was last at the docs with something else i mentioned this to her and she said not to worry as they are all diferent (apparently her first never slept and the second always slept!)I was worried about my Lo sleeping too much but she has started to drop her afternoon nap now (although not every day!) and she is 9 months. MAke the most of it i say - i know when my LO doesn't want her afternoon nap and is tired it can be hard work! good luck xx
