first solids when out and about - advice please !

hiya everyone, my baby just started on baby rice last week, loved it, so moved on to pureed apples, carrots, pears, swedes etc (once a day at moment), its all going well so far. But i am confused about what to do when out with my baby. I have made all the pureed food in ice cube trays, then when frozen, transferred into freezer bags, labelled and dated, and i am fine when at home, but what are you meant to do when you are out? Sorry is this is a daft query! I tend to take out 2 cubes the night before and let defrost in fridge, then heat up and serve the following day. So if I am going out, what do I do? Do i need to keep the defrosting cubes fresh and cool? How do you all do it? Thanks in advance for your help girlies :) xx

Yes you do. You can get some very neat small plastic boxes with clip on lids from any good supermarket – just the right size for a teaspoon or two of pureed vegetables or fruit. Put your ice cubes into one of these the night before, keep it in the fridge and take it with you in a small cool bag. You can then use it as you would at home. You are doing just the right thing for your baby – good fresh home cooked food and keeping the flavours separate until you are sure which ones your baby likes or which don’t agree with him or her.

either take cubes in a pot and serve cold, things like apple and pear are nice cold, or bananas or avacardo are great for mashing on the go! x

Babies can eat cold food- you do not need to heat fruit or veg.

Hi, whereabouts will you be going? If I am going out I tend to put the frozen cubes in a pot and just put it in his bag to defrost. If you are going to someone's house then it's just the same as being at home, but most places are happy to provide a bowl of water for you to heat the food in. They just won't heat it up for you - health and safety! If you are travelling then most service stations have feeding stations with microwaves so you can heat the food up. Hope that helps x
hiya - going on a road trip to visit family in ireland. thanks so much for your advice.
its all new to me, but getting there i think! xx

ah thanks. I tried so hard to breastfeed, but was not happening at all. Was so worried he was hungry, that i had to go with bottle. Felt guilty ever since, so making him fresh home made food is the next best thing I can do for him. thanks so much for you advice xx

When I go out with my twin boys, I heat their food, then put it in a stainless steel food flask. I use the Foogo brand by Thermos which I got from Amazon, but you could check on Ebay as well. I tried a plastic one, but it didn't keep the food warm, so I got the stainless steel one. It's brilliant. Sometimes the food is still so hot hours later that I have to let it cool before feeding them.
that sounds very handy - thank you, i will give that a go. x
