Is the NHS labour experience as bd as some of teh stories I've read?

Hi I've now read, quite by default, a good few really negative reports about giving birth in hospital. They mainly revolve around there not being enough midwives on duty and people being left to themselves and stressed. I'm just wondering what your labour experiences were like and if I should be prepared to mainly give birth in hospital mostly with just my partner for company? I've decided I don't want a home birth as it's my first and I'd like medical back up. Any experiences will be greatly appreciated xx

hi ive just given birth a week ago in the new st marys in manchester at the new childrens hospital which has just been built and it was like a hotel and i was treated like a queeni went in at bout 12.30am and was already 4 cm so they gave me gas n air straight away and transfered me to delivery i had a midwife in the room with me all night the same 1 she checked babys heartbeat every 15 min and it was good cause she was there to talk to not that i did much talking more screaming.lol.by 4.30 i was 10cm and ready to pushing she then stayed with me till she went home so it was nice to have that 1 2 1 and i stayed in the same room i gave birth in aswell with en suite till i was discharged that afternoon and the next midwife that came on shift done the same 1 2 1 i cant fault it in any way shape or form i want to do it all again so it isnt all that bad i realy enjoyed giving birth and thats how it should be you should want to remember it not forget it as quick as you can.xx good luck.xx

mine wasnt so bad. got there, they examined me, found that although my waters had gone i was only like 2cm dilated so packed me off to the pre-delivery ward where i stayed with just my partner and a canistar of gas and air for company til i was ready to push. i was never left alone once i was back down in the labour ward and the midwife and doctor i had were brilliant, hard as nails both of them but thats what i needed, not all that mushy you're doing really well stuff. they delivered my baby safely and in natural delivery which was what i wanted.

however with next one, if i have another, i'm going straight home before i get to antenatal ward if i get my way. not going through that again. omg the noise and chaos! i'd get more peace at home. x x

I had a reaaly good experience. I was admitted ti hospital on the 20th June and had a C section on the 29th. All the staff were fantastic, really friendly and happy to answer any questions. After the birth, every midwife really helped me bf as my son was very lazy!! I couldn't fault them.

I agree ..... they were fantastic for me and I couldn't fault them at all. To be honest it was nice that they left me to be with my OH and just checked up every 15 mins or so. The after care for me has been fantastic too as I had 3rd degree tearing. I have had physio appointments, consultant checks etc. I wouldn't worry about reports you hear xx

I had a fantastic labour experience with the NHS. The midwife I had on duty was brill and couldnt do enough. Obv they leave u to it and come check on u every 15mins to see how u are progressing and every hr+ to see how dilated u are. U do the hard work urself hun :D Dont listen to the negativity surrounding the NHS on that part as I found it was a great experience. x
