Prozac and breastfeeding?

Let me introduce myself, I am Alison Brown one of the gurgle experts, I am a midwife and answer some of the questions that come up on the site.

I have just notice your thread and thought I would offer some advice.

Nearly all drugs will state that they are contraindicated in pregnancy, for up to date information have a look at the breastfeeding network,it has a section on drugs and breastfeeding.

I had a patient a few months back in a similar situation; the mum was also reluctant to try a different medication as the Prozac she was on was working well. The situation was reviewed by the paediatrician and it was decided as the evidence was very limited to see how things went if the baby started to have any side effects then mum was to with draw slowly off medication and on to something else.

Hi, I'd give your GP a ring, they can tell you over the phone whether you can take it while breastfeeding. It wouldn't cause colic though x

Ok my doc knew I would be on it still when my baby was born. He is 2 weeks now and I am breastfeeding but I have been reading that the meds get through to the babys milk. Not sure what to do or how it affects him. anyone got any thoughts on what I should do. I didn't want to give up breastfeeding yet but maybe its best I do. He's seemed a bit colicky lately and I nave been wondering if this is what could be causing it. Any advice would be gratefully accepted :) Thanks in advance xxx
