When should antenatal classes start?

Hello everyone im 29+5 and the midwife told me a couple of days ago that the antenatals dont start until the 5th nov meaning i will be roughly 34 weeks (just over)?? It seems very late to me and cant see how i will fit them all in in a safe time before bubba arrives?? Is this normal to wait so late?? What are your experiences? xx

Well my midwife still hadn't mentioned them & I forgot to ask at my appointment so I rang the hospital. I was told they do 2x saturday morning sessions, 2 weeks apart, & I should have started already but they were booked for the rest of the month! So my first one is this week when I will be 36 weeks, & the second one I will be 38 weeks! I'm just glad I phoned to check because everyone I asked said they did them quite late but that the midwife will just sort it! I've seen my midwife twice since & it still hasn't been mentioned! I also had a bit of a nose through my maternity notes & saw a section on feeding the baby which should have been discussed by 32 weeks apparently!!

One of the options in my area includes having to call at 23 weeks to say you're interested and I'm pretty sure it starts soon after (depending on amount of people). It is part of what the hospital do and includes tours and parenting advice. Another that is available wouldn't start until around 32 weeks. With that one, it only lasts a couple of hours so it could just be my hospital that do something special compared to elsewhere.

Hi, I got an invite at 34 weeks to go but the invitation/appointment arrived on the day of the class so I literally opened the post 5 minutes before the class started 10 miles away!! I have also been invited to go to birth preperation class at the birthing centre where I am due to give birth at and I will be 37 weeks by that point. They also said that if two labours were in and only 2 MW's then they would have to cancel the class as no one would be there to take it! I am not too worried about it though. What will be will be :-)

In my area you only get one 2 hour class. I was 33 weeks I think.

Hi I've been wondering about this too - I'm 30 weeks and applied for my antenatal classes ages ago and still haven't heard anything. I even rang the lady who runs them but she hasn't got back in touch! xx
