should I say something?

Hi girls, my 4 year old came home from school a few days ago and started telling me that he has to be good because god loves him and if he's bad he'll be in trouble with god, im not a believer but i have no problem with religion, in fact i try to teach my son about all faiths, i dont ram it down his throat but tell him about how different people live their lives in different ways with different rules. I want him to make the choice about his own faith when he;s old enough. Anyway back to the point, i asked him who told him that and he said his teacher did in assembely. I was under the impression that his school was non denomination, one of the reasons we sent him there. Im not happy that he's being told he HAS to prey and sing religious hymns, and hold his hands in a steple and say Amen. Am i over reacting? or should i say something? I dont like that he's being told he has to believe in their god, i want him to learn about all faiths so he can make that desision for himself, can schools force the pupils into religion like this one seems to be?

hi just a point most schools where i live will openly state that they do not neccacerily practice but teach christianity and the basics of other religions as part of the cirriculum with the main focus being on christianity as part of childrens spiritual well being but u can opt ur children out of the lessons if u feel so strongly about it just thought id point out this fact as if you dont have any joy in speaking to them changing schools would not neccacerily solve the problem either as a high percentage teach atleast 1 religion

I'd definitely say something, I'm a non believer and will bring my children up that way. I want my kids to learn about religion but I want them to learn that it's what people choose to believe rather than it being fact. When the 'christmas story' gets told at my daughter's nursery I'll be telling her it's just a story that some people believe is true but that there's no proof. I have nothing against religion but get really annoyed when it gets forced on to people.
