Gurgle expert Thirza Ashelford says 'Before applying you really need to go and visit as many preschools in your area as possible. Don’t be pushed one way or the other by friends – each preschool will be different and where one may suit one child it may not suit another. Only you know your child and where they will feel comfortable and secure and that is the one to choose. Once you have decided which one is best for your child ask the manager how soon you should apply. It is unlikely that you would have to apply more than a year in advance of the start date and more likely just a couple of terms, but if it a very good preschool and very popular you may have to wait a little longer to get in. Some preschools ask for a registration fee, this is quite normal and goes towards the administration charges of booking your child in but this fee will rarely guarantee you a place so do check this out with the manager as well.'
As a general rule (dif areas vary) pre-schools apply by 2nd b/day & reception school places by 3rd b/day. Check out your local council website, it should give you the official guidlines for your area xx
