If you fix key events in the day and work your routines around those it will give you a framework within which you can respond to your children’s needs and have some all important time for yourself and your partner as well. Mealtimes are the best events to fix. I am sure your little girl is now happily into a three meal a day routine with snacks in between. Your little boy should also be joining in these mealtimes too so try to keep these as fixed in the day as possible – without being so rigid that it all falls apart if you are ten minutes late! Breakfast between 8.00 and 9.00, lunch between 12.00 and 1.00 and so on – if you feed your baby on demand keeping a fairly relaxed approach to your routine will make sure it goes smoothly. Remember that demand feeding can work both ways so if possible try to feed the baby before the other mealtimes so that you can sit with the older children and have a few moments with them – and this will also ensure that you are eating sensibly throughout the day too – it’s all too easy for us to forget that we need feeding too when there are a number of hungry mouths in front of us!

Your little girl will be coming up to three when your baby is born so it may well be sensible to start looking at a preschool for her now. Explain to the manager that you are pregnant and you don’t want your daughter to feel pushed out when the baby is born so finding a good preschool now where she can go for some visits will make it a very special occasion when she is old enough to go – and this will have nothing to do with the baby! If there is a college of further education in your town give them a ring – if they offer child care courses such as the CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education or the BTEC National Diploma in Early Years they may be looking for families to take their students as a placement. This additional help can be a life saver for you and a fantastic experience for the student. Remember that a student can never be left in sole charge of your children but they can do everything for the children while under your supervision – even cooking, cleaning the children’s bedrooms and doing their ironing as well as organising activities and helping you take them out on visits. Try it!

hey hunni,me an hubby r expectin baby number 7 end ov feb.our children r aged,8,7,6,5 almost 4 and 18months,my baby boy wont even b 2yrs wen this baby arrives.lol.it does get stressfull at times financially but i also know of couples wiv 1 child who struggle.there is more 2 life than material things.gettin a good routine wiv all the children from day 1 is key,it will pay off in the end sure u will feel stressed or unable 2 cope at times but u might actually find u will hav more time 4 urself.good luck hunni x

hey u will b fine,i had 3 under 2!!if anything it will prob b easir coz they will all amuse each other rather than wantin ur attention all the time!r u goin 2 find out wot ur havin?xx
