my son is almost 19 months and although he start to walk when he was 10 months old, he just would not walk outside. No problem in the garden or any building, but as long as we leave or cul-de-sac he starts with tantrums, crying and would not do a step. when I convice him to do few after 10min, he does only 4-5 and tantrum again. Anyone with similer experience?
It is probably best not to force this while it is causing your son to be so upset. He probably just feels less secure outside, possibly on hard pavements, or with the sound of traffic going by. There is really little point in insisting so that he ends up having a tantrum. Just pop him back in his pushchair, and remember lots of parents would love to be in that situation so that they could get to where they’re going more easily. Just try to follow his lead and do things at the pace he is happiest with. It is always a mistake to try and persuade toddlers to do things to an adult timetable as it only causes upset. He will get there in his own time, and as you say he is able to walk well so no doubt will want to walk everywhere eventually.
