hi there
I am currently 26 weeks 4 days into my second pregnancy and have been admitted to hospital with complications. I have a low lying placenta and this has ruptured and bleeding has been on and off since Thursday.
I have been advised that i will be in hospital now until baby is born which will be my emergency c section when the expected major hemorrhaging occurs. This is normally around the 32-34 weeks mark however concern is it will be much sooner as i have experienced bleeding this early.
Has anyone ever been in this situation or know anything more about it or where I can find more info to be well prepared for all scenarios?
thanks

hello, i currently have a baby who is 15 weeks old and was born at 26weeks via emergency c section. she weighed 1pound 10oz the hosptial staff were amazing and the care given to the babies in the neonatal care units is AMAZING they deserve awards......
its not anyones ideal situation but i hope it helps a bit if you know how wonderful the units are ( maddison was in three of them in different areas)
Maddsion is doin very well, the eye tests are clear and hearing too and she now weighs 7lb and is growing well.
good luck and i hope everything goes well for you and your baby.
Hi,
Let me introduce myself, I am Alison Brown one of the gurgle experts, I am a midwife and answer some of the questions that come up on the site.
I have just notice your thread and thought I would offer some advice.
As a midwife I do come across this scenario quiet frequently.
Any mother who has a low lying placenta and has a history of intermittent bleeding is admitted to hospital usually until the baby is born.
They are advised to stay in hospital, just in case a major haemorrhage should occur, so that they have direct quick access to the services.
Many of the mums I have looked after in this situation have got to about 37-39 weeks before being delivered by c-section having just small bleeds every now and then. Whilst others have had significant bleeds much earlier, resulting in early delivery of their baby.
With advances in neonatal medicine the outcome for baby’s born earlier has greatly improved. You will have been given a steroid to help mature the baby’s lungs should delivery occur before 34 weeks and the labour ward and neonatal unit will be on stand by should you need to be delivered early.
Unfortunately no ones really knows when indeed if it will happen and it is just a question of trying to get you as far as possible to your due date and by being in hospital you can be checked regularly.
All the best.
Alison
http://www.webmd.com/hw-popup/placenta-abruptio I'm assuming this is what happens to cause the major haemorrhaging. Good Luck x
http://pregnancy.about.com/cs/placentaprevia/a/previa.htm has some info and also says their are support groups for those mums-to-be confined to bed rest. x
