My sister works for the Health Protection agency and when my kids and i are offered it we will be taking up the offer.. luckily for me i am able to know more about the injections and more about swine flu.
I think everyone has an opinion and i think you should make your own decision or maybe talk more about it to your doc or midwife
I've got 5 weeks to go, and wont be having it. I asked my midwife about it, and she didn't try and push it (I realise she isn't meant to influence my decision) but she said to look it up and make up my own mind. However, the look on her face was enough for me; I don't feel enough research has been done on pregnant women and the jab, so will be giving it a miss. x
I also have 9 weeks left and I WILL be having it. There are increased risks to getting flu (as the midwife said) and if you have any other risk factors (ie Asthma) then even more so. The jab is made in the same way as seasonal flu jabs which are made new every year so I don't see it as anything different to that. Also they are not made using a live virus so there shouldn't be any effects.. I have been having the flu jab for years as I have asthma and have never suffered anything as a result.
Im also really confused as to weather to have it or not.. im 15 weeks so ive still got a way to go. I feel the same in the respect that its a very new vaccination and i dont know what sort of affects and so on it would have but at the same time, ive heard i doesnt protect the baby but surely if i had the jab it would make me immune to it and therefore the baby too?? Im just really confused.. alot of people are telling me I HAVE to have it! but i just dont know! especially as there was meant to be a major pandemic in the summer which didnt really happen and now its meant to come in the winter?? argh so confusing!!

Hi,
Let me introduce myself, I am Alison Brown one of the gurgle experts, I am a midwife and answer some of the questions that come up on the site.
I have just notice your thread and thought I would offer some advice.
As a pregnant woman you are in on of the high risk groups your immune system is lowered and your ability to fight infections is harder.
As far as I am aware GP's are not getting payment for swine flu vaccinations and as midwives we certainly do not.
You should not feel at all pressurised in to having the vaccination at the end of the day as professionals we respect what ever decision you make.
Have a look at the nhs website it has all the information you need to help you make your decision.

Hope that has helped if you have any further questions post them on the expert advice page as I tend to answer most questions from there.
Regards
Alison
