Should i be getting more then that or how do i get more? I'm using a electric pump, and really feel i should be getting more? i've been expressing like this for about 4 days,as now i'm introducing a bottle fed, will more milk come the more i do it or am doing it at the wrong times!! HELP!!!

Hey :) What pump do you have hun? I bought a medela electric one as the tommee tippee manual one was rubbish for me. I express 1st thing in the morning and can usally get 4oz if not more. Another good time is when baby is actually feeding from the one breast..express from the other at same time. Also try placing a warm flannel over your boobs beforehand x
Thanx alot for your advice,i've got a medela electric double one,but only use one side at a time as i find i have no hands for 2!! It is very good,i expressed during the night last night when my OH was feeding her and got alot more out then i do in the day,but spoke to my midwife and she said to express right after a fed or during a fed from teh other boob! i need like 3 hands i think!!!
Am gonna try the warm bath thing and warm flannels tonight.
Am not as worried as i was,as more milk does seem to be coming the more i express.

i used to eat dried figs, dried apricots, drank alot of milky drinks, sumtimes just milk, at times milkshakes... it all helped me produce more milk... ooohh havin a warm bath or shower helps u produce more milk pretty much straight away.
( i expressed for all my lil gals feeds up till she was 4months, she had probs feedin, after 4months i got fed up coz she preferred bein fed thru a bottle n just cudnt n wudnt latch on, mw's sed she gt lazy, as u can imagine how hard it is expressin as it is, imagine expressin 4 all her feeds, not that am tryin to put u off, i wud still breastfeed my next 1, i just had bad luck with my 1st)

Hi - I had to express as my LO wouldn't suck properly. The HV reccomened that I expressed (I think) at least 4 times a day and one of these should be early morning (about 1-2am) as she said it helped stimulate a good milk supply. I managed to get about 6oz from each side once i was into the swing of things (about 5 weeks) but expressed more regularly to begin with to encourage my milk. In the end up I produced more than a jersey cow! The best thing might be to express at the halfway point of when you would feed (e.g. If your LO feeds every 4 hours express 2 hours after the feed) ot to 'drain' any remaining milk after a feed. If you express/feed more regualry you will eventually produce more milk. Also don't worry if you don't produce much milk by expressing - the midwife (who had 2 kids) who looked after me after the birth of my LO told me she never managed to express more than a couple of oz when she was breast feeding. If this seems to be the case just freeze what you have a gradually build up a supply! Good luck

My friend is using the tommee tippee electric pump & she expresses in the morning, afternoon & evening from the same breast that her baby has fed from!! Have you got the Gina Ford book as there is advice in there on how to boost your milk supply!!
