anyone else suffer from a really back back? how do you manage?

Hi there I've just had my first child and have suffered from a bad back since I was a teenager and I was just wondering if anyone else out there is in the same position and has any advice as to how they manage? I can't lift any prams or pushchairs which makes life a bit restricting as I can't put the pram in the car or carry my baby whilst I'm out. I'm desperate to find a lightweight buggy suitable for a 3 month old but the lightest I can find is 5.3kg and is still too heavy. I really worry about LO getting heavier as he is only 10 weeks now and I already find carrying him to and from his change table difficult. If anyone else is in the same boat and has any tips or advice I would be really grateful! Many thanks x

My mum swears by her osteopath, had a ruptured disc which pretty much immobilised her and now she's so much better! I also heard dr hilary on gmtv the other day saying that people tend to stop moving as soon as their back hurts which can cause it to seize up even more-gentle exercise can help? But only as long as that woudn't do more damage than good!
Your hormones are still making everything weaker after having your little one as well, I was always advised not to do anything strenuous or heavy lifting for a little while after! Emily x

Hi Just found your thread. Do you now what the cause of your bad back is? Or is that the main part of the problem - not knowing? I ruptured a disc just a year and half ago due to poor posture at the work station and a stressful job with lots of overtime. I ended up in A&E as I could hardly walk. It took me a full year to recover (I'm 33 by the way) I couldn't believe how debilitating a bad back was! Loads of people told me I'd suffer from a bad back all my life (thanks for the moral support peeps) but now I don't. Basically my route to recovery was intensive physio - I just did everything by the book that I was told to do, which meant exercises every hour for 3 weeks. To be honest it wasn't as hard as it sounds. I also visited a chiropractor who 'put me back into alignment' which really helped too. Once a few months were out of the way I started yoga to strengthen my core as my tummy muscles are weak compared to my back which can cause back probs too. I'm 34 weeks preg and only get a bit of back pain at night now so these things do work if your causes are like mine. I only know another thing that can cause back probs is being overweight (I'm going weight watchers after bubs is born ; ) I'd say you need to get to the docs pronto and keep bugging the professionals. I've bought the bugaboo chameleon as it was the lightest I could find. Hope I've helped xxx
