Maternity Clothes - too early?

When is it right to start wearing maternity clothes? I'm very early days, only 6 weeks, but my jeans feel pretty tight around the waist now and I feel queasy when I wear them. It's the same with a lot of my work trousers. I've already had to buy a sleep bra to alleviate that pain but the assistant was politely surprised when I said I was only 5 weeks at the time, so I'm worried about looking stupid!

I was 19 odd weeks before I bought maternity trousers (needed them before, but couldnt find any here!) so i was borrowing trousers left right and centre. buy them as soon as you feel you need them, i wish i had!! I pretty much live in my maternity jeans now (35weeks). xxx

Oooh, also new look do a pack of 3 bump bands for a tenner (cheapest I've found), they are a great buy and will help lots of tops/trousers last a bit longer than they might do otherwise. x

Debenhams has got a pair of nice dark blue combats in the red herring maternity bit, they have stretchy panels to stop them feeling tight and button up elastic so you can make them tighter or looser as you grow. They are fab! Should see you through from week 1 to week 40! I some normal tops in the next size up and maternity tops that I could wear when not preg (like little dress style tops that go with jeans/leggings) that way I don't feel too bad about spending as hopefully I'll get a bit more wear out of them. All my clothes started to feel uncomfy very early too. The relief when you get stretchy waistbands is great tho! xx

My trousers felt the same, made me queasy to wear them with my usual belt (My trousers are always a little loose as I buy them that way as I like the slouch style :) hence the belt) So I took it out when I was between 6 and 13 weeks gone and put it back on when I felt better. For me it wasn't because I had an early bump but because I was just uncomfortable, my bumps only really appeared a few weeks ago! But if your trousers where a snug fit to start with then you should buy a bigger pair to make sure your comfortable, a maternity pair (without a bump band) in your usual size should be fine and give you the extra breathing room you need during the morning sickness stage. x

Thanks everyone. I might borrow a few bits off my friend to see how that works for me and take it from there. My mother in law can't wait to buy me stuff but I've told her not too until xmas :)

I'm nearly 15 weeks and have had a pair of maternity trousers since I was 11 weeks (held off buying any before then and just wore stretchy stuff!!) but others are right, most important thing is that you are comfortable so if you need to get some maternity clothes to give you a bit more flexibility then go for it :-) you can always get a few bits and get more further along the line :-) xx

Yo've got to be comfortable! Especially at work. If you just buy a couple of pairs of trousers for work and a pair of jeans that are maternity then no one will even know really unless you tell them! x
