GRRRR to the Doctors!

Hi all. I'm new, 28 years old and 10 weeks pregnant with my first baby so i have no idea what i'm meant to do or when i'm meant to do it (this website has been a MASSIVE help!) I found out i was pregnant at 6 weeks so called the doctor and made an appointment. The closest date they could do was today for the Dr and 16th November for the midwife appointment. The Dr has just told me off for not coming in sooner! Due to the paperwork she says I wont be able to have a scan for 4-6 weeks cos they are really booked up! whats that all about?! That means that i will be having my first scan potentially at 16 weeks. I think i might burst if i have to wait that long! Has anyone else had this kind of problem? I'm wondering why i cant just call the hospital and book a scan myself? there must be cancellations or some appointment within the next 4 weeks! Sorry for my first post on here being a moan but its really annoyed me! Any suggestions?!

For me I went to doc's when I was 7 weeks pregnant & my booking appointment at the hospital was booked for when I was 15 weeks. But I was going to be away on holiday & when I rang up to change the appointment I said I was goig on hols & they brought it forward 2 weeks so I was 13 weeks when i had mine. Don't no if I was just lucky, but worth a try when u get a date through

When my daughter was waiting for a hospital appointment the health visitor told me to keep phoning the department and saying that we would take a last minute appointment if there were any cancellations, you could try this. Congratulations on the pregnancy x

Hi im 23 and 13 1/2 weeks pregnant, i went to the docs as soon as a found out i was pregnant (5 weeks) and my scan is not for another 2 weeks so i will be 15 1/2 weeks then. I havnt even had a letter confirming this, (proably due to post strikes) ive had to phone the ANC at the hospital myself. i know how you feel i got myself really upset at the thought of waiting that long as we are desperate to tell peole but want to wait till after the scan to check everything is ok. people said to me that we will be able to see much much at the scan by that time so im just looking forward to that. Dont no if this make you feel any better. xxx

hmmm what a sticky situation! I went when I found out and was told to return to docs at 10 weeks (end of this week) and they said would book my 12 weeks scan...now for some reason your docs cant change dates and when you went in...so the only thing you could do is have a private scan (I would do that) and I know, depending on your area a place called "first view" who do scans for 60 quid.

each area has their own system my area you cant book appointment yourself has to be done through the doctor. understand your frustration tho i couldnt wait that long! in my area unless youre totally clueless bout your dates you had to wait til 20 weeks for a scan! there was no 12 week scan at all. it might have changed now tho. there probably will be plenty of cancelled appointments but they will no doubt get booked up very quickly to emergency appoinments. hopefully you'll get appointment sooner. x x

My dr was the same really. im 5 weeks pregnant and i called the drs as soon as i knew. They got the nurse to call me back and she said that as i had had a positive test there was no need to see the dr at this stage! She booked me in for my first appointment on 2nd December with the midwife!
