due date 2day!!!

Let me introduce myself, I am Alison Brown one of the gurgle experts, I am a midwife and answer some of the questions that come up on the site.
I have just notice your thread and thought I would offer some advice.
All women with a normal uncomplicated pregnancy should be offered a membrane sweep if they go over their due date. The best time to do this is at about 1 week over. Membrane sweeps done at this time can reduce the need for the labour to be induced medically.
So I would recommend that if you are offered one that you go for it.
A membrane sweep involves trying to pass a finger through the neck of the womb and sweeping around the membranes, releasing them and hopefully stirring up some of the labour hormones to get you into labour.
Sometimes it is not possible to do as the neck of the womb is tightly closed. I had one with my last pregnancy it felt like a really strong period pain similar to a mild contraction.

i aint had one but freinds have told me the midwife just gently sweeps the cervixs and that i doesnt hurt 1 bit also they said it very gd for bring on labour which is gd :D x good luck and take care x

never had one meant to b uncomfortable bt nt neccessarily hurt. i went into labour the nyt before i was supposed to be induced i think i had it on my mind so much that it happend naturally. dont worry about it hun alot can happen in seven days enjoy ur last days of pregnancy xx

I had one with my pregnancy when i was already in early labour and it was fine to be honest. I'd just like a smear really. Don't worry about it! I went only 2 days past my due date and so didn't need to wait long for intervention. I wasn't sure i wanted one but i figured if it helped bring her out quicker i was happy with that! x

i had one when i was preg with my first. it was quite uncomfy as they push really high up and swirl there fringers in a circular motion.. lovey hay! i was jumping away from her and she kept pulling me back down though. Mine persoally didnt work but i thought anthing was worth a try! 8 dys after sweep my little one arrived. Good luck hope babay comes before the sweep!! xxx

ooooo so nervous now!! bet that must of been so uncomfortable...but i guess i just got to get on with it now! yeah i try and walk every day and am still quite actve round the house! ive tried the curry, the pineapple and rasberry leaf tea no luck!! lol fingers crossed baby decideds to come natrally before tuesday!!

Haven't had one, but have heard they can be a little uncomfortable or painful. I was induced day before my due date and gave birth on it and the pessaries they used to induce me (of which I had 2 separate lots hours apart) had to be inserted all the way in there by the MW and that was the single most uncomfortable experience of my life having basically a strangers arm right up there whilst she kept repeating the words 'relax,relax' yeah right! Fingers crossed you go naturally before then! Movement helps move things along, a few gentle walks a day plus you could try some of the other more wives tale style methods! x

had mw appointment 2day and she said she will give me a sweep nxt tuesday...am abit scared.. any one else had one an what was it like??? soooo scared lol silly i no!
