Gurgle expert Thirza Ashelford says 'At times like this I always try to think about the situation from the child’s point of view. If you leave it until after the baby is born then what happens? Not only is your daughter’s life disrupted (albeit by a lovely little brother!)but she also has to give him her cot which although she has probably well grown out of is still “hers” and a safe and cosy place! If you move her into her bed now before her brother is born you can give her your full attention while she adjusts to her new status as a big girl and no longer a baby (because only babies sleep in cots!). She can even help you to clean the cot and re-paint it or at least choose some new blankets or covers. If you are artistic she could even help make a mobile to hang over it!
Making the move now means you can make her feel very special and grown up and when the baby is born it is one less thing to worry about and possibly do in a hurry which is not what either of you will need then! Go for it – she will be fine!!'
We put our son in a bed at 21mths and it was just after xmas so said it was a special xmas gift for him, he was great to start but soon learnt he could get up and come out of his room so we put a stair gate on the door but left it open and did controlled crying that worked for us. Our daughter has gone in a bed at 25mths she has taken to it like a duck to water really likes being in her Big girls bed. You have to try for a week I would say unless their really distressed by it else it's not worth trying out.
by the way don't wait till after baby too long else they might see as being pushed out of cot for new baby causing jealousy or resentment we were advised this and hence why did with son at 21mths as I was expecting no 2.

Hi, i put my son in his big boy bed when he was just 10 months old (I didn't plan to do it so early but he (and me) was having lots of restless nights sleep in his cot so i just thought it was worth a try)! He has slept through the night, every night ever since and has not yet fell out of it (he is now 13 months old). It has been a god send n he loves it so go for it xx

my daughters been in a bed since she was 14 months old and has been good as gold. (I didnt set out to do it this early but she was waking every night and it was just another thing to try!) It took a few days of putting her back but it didnt take long for her to get into a routine.
I'd say go for it! Its got to happen at somepoint, just be positive! x
