Hi my son is 7 months and has leant how to pull and hold him self up to stand, which is fantastic I'm so proud of him. The only problem is that he is now trying to do it freestyle without holding on to anything and he's coming crashing down, this is fine until I put him for a nap in his cot, because he is does not want to sleep and is going to cause himself an injury. Has anyone had a similar problem or got any advice please? :)x

All small children when they are learning to stand and walk are bound to fall down many times. Usually they have the nicely padded nappy to cushion their bottoms, and it is rare for them to hurt themselves in that way. You should however take a good look at the furniture for any sharp corners or anything that could hurt him if he crashes into it. It is always useful doing this “baby-proofing” as soon as your baby is on the move. The best way is to get down to that level and take a look around to see whether there might be hazards.
You can’t really stop him from trying out new skills when he feels ready. Seven months is certainly quite early for this, but you are proud of his ability, so it is really just a question of trying to alter the environment around him to make it safer. You could make sure the inside of the cot has some soft bumpers and padding so that he shouldn’t have any problem there.
Hi thank you for the advice, i have put some bumpers up in his cot now to try and soften the fall and will do as advised to go round the house and baby prof all rooms. Have had to by stair gates as he is now climbing the stairs!:)
