Probably paranoid but.......

Hi, I'm new to all this - i am five weeks so very early, but am getting mild cramp like sensations every now and again. I know everyone tells me it's normal and usually i am a very rational person, but i need the reassurance! Can anyone advise?

Fact is that when it comes to worrying about the health and safety of our children (even those who have hardly started to develop in our womb) parents are not rational! Pregnancy is not just about the development and growth of a baby- its about the growth of dreams too- and so of course we worry about every twing- and check we are not aborting eveytime we go to the loo! At five weeks you already understand what loss would mean to you now. But once love is engaged you can try and relax but there is nothing you can do to completely eliminate the worry. All parents worry. It goes with the territory
Rest assured you are not alone and the cramp like sensations are common and do not necessarily mean anything. Everything is -in all probability fine. But there are no guarantees. We are used to being in control- but pregnacy is not something we can completely control- nor is parenthood something we can cacoon from all harm. You will feel more secure about this pregnacy as time passes but worry and fear that something will go wrong are never far beneath the surface. And they never will be. Thats just part of parenthood.

Hey, i found out at 5 weeks too and for about 3-4 weeks after that i had achey mild period like pains every so often and my belly went really hard. went to the doctors who checked me out and said that it was stretching pains. I think in the first 8 weeks your uterus grows from the size of a small plum to the size of a grapefruit so its not suprising really. if you're really worried, go to your GP and they'll be able to check everything. congratulations. x

hiya hun... i found out i was pregnant at 5 weeks too. it seems like you have forver to go dont it lol. but my little girls 5 months old now and believe me hun your pregnancy will fly by!!! :) anyway i no its what evryone says but yeh it is totally normal i promise.. i am the same as you a totally rational realistic person but when your pregnant you have a little life inside of you, its totally natural to feel paranoid and anxious as you want to protect your child hunny. i had pains and like stretch feelings till a few months in. it was usually when my period was due or just after. the tinyest thing used to frighten me i would get myself so worked up. but believe me its so so worth it when my little girl wakes up in a morning and gives me the gummyest of smiles i could cry..enjoy your experience hunny. i miss being pregnant lol x

Been to my GP today and explained all this and she reminded me that everything is stretching and lifting to make room for baby!!!!! Don't panic as I really am exactly the same as you!!!! Hope I have been some help to you xx

I was the same... I was 2 weeks late with AF, and didn't expect to be pregnant. I thought AF was on her way. But after reaching 2 weeks passed my period being due I went doctors. Found I was pregnant and told her I was getting period cramps. She said it was just everything stretching, getting ready to accommodate a bubba. I was overly nervous every time I went to the loo while I had them! I was about 12-15 weeks before they went away totally. No need to panic. hope it helps? x x
