I had troubles originally as my milk didnt come through in time, and yes it did hurt but only until my LO and I both learnt how to do it. She is 5months now and I am still breastfeeding her, its my special time with her, and I love it. mNothing against bottle feeding but it is so much more intense bonding with breastfeeding I feel xx
Hello :) Im still breastfeeding Jasmine and shes 6months :)
Your nipples will hurt for 1st week but if you persevere with feeding baby then they will harden and become used to baby suckling. There are nipple creams you can use and apparently putting cabbage in your bra helps too (i didnt try that one!)
Also after feeding baby just pat dry the area and try and let as much air as possible to the nipple in the first few weeks. Try it and see for yourself..only way you can decide :) x
oh and also it is fabulous for weight loss, i have lost all my baby weight already. now i just have to lose the weight i gained from last xmas.lol.
LOL me too!

my little girl is 6 weeks on sunday and i exclusively breast feed her. she latched on within 5 minutes of being born the first day was fine, the next couple of days my nipples really hurt when she first latched on and they went a bit scabby. as soon as my milk came in i can honestly say i have had no discomfort at all. she was a big baby (9lb 12oz) and i'm only small my self so when she went through a growth spurt at two weeks she was feeding at least every hour, i worried that she wasn't getting enough and i nearly cracked and gave her formula, but instead i perservered and she is putting on weight so i guess i must be doing well. just make sure you eat and drink enough and don't stress yourself out about it, babies really can sense when mummy is upset :)
I breastfed both of mine, the first for 12 months and I'm hoping to do the same with my son who's now 5 1/2 months and doing well breastfeeding. I did find it very painful for the first 2 weeks with my daughter as my nipples were bleeding and sore but I persevered and it was so worth it. You can get things like mastitis but the best way to get over that is to carry on breastfeeding. You'll find that midwives are amazingly helpful with breastfeeding too. Don't forget breastfeeding is the best thing for you and your baby and bottle feeding just doesn't come close. Good luck, feel free to add me as a friend and ask me any questions x
ps. the first couple of weeks were hard (with latching on etc and sore nipples) but after that it became easy - so persevere. Not everyone gets sore nipples though
Definately try it - I am still breastfeeding my almost 6 month old and will be probably till 8 months or so. Its somethnig only I can do for him and it I love it.. it releases endomorphins apparantly as well and helps you sleep as well as being super healthy for your baby. If thats not enough, breastfeeding has made me lose sooo much weight. I really am able to eat what I want and lose weight at the same time..
The only downside is that I left giving him a bottle until too late and now he refuses to drink anything from a bottle (and I've tried EVERY kind!) so try a bottle once a day (with expressed milk or formula) from around 5 weeks if you want to use bottles after 6 months or whatever.
Mich and max xx
