I'm so Peeeeeed off. Grrr. Obviously OH and I have been discussing names. We wrote some down in a little book and we decided to keep doing that until we know what it is or are further along.
Anyway, I told him, I didn't want him to discuss any names we decided to keep in the book, with anyone - but he thought that was a bit selfish. I explained, that I didn't want him influenced by other people but he's just very impatient and likes to tell people things he's excited about.
Yesterday he told his sister about our current choice for a boys names. Of course the reaction was "Ewww, you cant call him that", her son told us he went to school with someone of that name who was fat and ugly and stupid. Then she took the mick saying it was a black persons name and we couldnt call a white kid that. And just she sent me a text saying, that she's sorry if she's upset me,but she just really doesnt like the names we picked and I should maybe buy a name book.
???
Do I need approval? And why do people constantly feel the need to say something negative about names choices. "I dont like it" "I knew someone who was fat/ugly/stupid/a sl$g/mean/etc. with that name", "It rhymes with..."
Its just really really annoying me. And then I constantly get the names suggestions similar to their names (SIL even suggested her own name, as "obviously" its a good name) and I dont like them, and I get commented on "Well if you're that fussy you wont ever find a good name, or your baby will get bullied at school with one of the ones you've choosen".
Sorry I just had to get that off my chest. I'll have a chat with OH today. He'll have to keep it to himself, because its annoying me. No one else should have a say or influence in our choice of names, but I can literally imagine how she tells him HER suggestions on the phone,and of course those are all suitable names.
I'm off to eat more sweets!
oh god yeah everyine knows someone full of "helpful" advice on naming your own baby. my own personal expert was the mil omg she was irritating. "cant call it this name it might get changed to this at school" or "no not that name i knew a so and so once he was a right g!t" on and after lily was born and we (quickly) registered her birth and then announced her name, what did get? not oh how lovely! it was "oh well she can always change it when shes older" GGGRRRR! on with that and ofcourse her totally suitable list of names (i swear i now officially hate the name caitlin coz she suggested it so many times!) ive learnt my lesson to never ever discuss names with anyone unless they helped make the baby. you have my total sympathy them comments were uncalled for. if you cant say nothing nice keep your gob shut! x x
I have sienna on my girls list amongst others and was told its a strippers name, and just because she's famous (sienna miller) doesnt make the name nice?? Thats some of the things I get to hear. Sienna is lovely, and if, in a couple of months times I still feel that way, I'll call her sienna. I'm just annoyed how people feel the need to slash baby names like this.
I mean you wouldnt meet someone new, have them introduce themselves and then go "Jeeezzz, where you're parents drunk when they picked your name, or what? Sounds like a stripper name to me!"?? SO why do it when baby names are picked?

Well i like like the name Natalya for my little girl when shes born and i haven't told my mum yet, cos i know its most likely she'll say i don;t like that. I did tell a friend a few other choices i had and she said she like those better as Natalya sounds foriegn!! When i told My OH he said that its not up to anyone else and am i going to be dictated to by friends and family? Answer: No i'm not but i do want people to like the ame we choose.

its a very pretty name and the little town in italy calles siena is gorgeous! good name choice if you are asking this biast parent! lol love savannah too xxx

After going through this 4 times..my bit of advice is that there will always be someone who doesnt like it....I have even been called cruel and nasty for inflicting the name harriet on our 2nd child...Naming yr child is such a personal thing..i have had ppl disown me because i wont name my child after dead relatives( ppl i never knew). I am a narcasit because i always give my children a middle name begining with "E" as that is my first initial (Ellan).
Do what u feel is right..there are so many ppl on this planet it would be highly unlikely that yr name hasn't been used before and out of the thounds with the same name one is gonna be horrible.
Take no notice of them and if u love a name then use it regardless of everyone..an maybe yr OH daughter is just sticking her oar in..yr SIL well the cheeky mare..the only way yr child will get bullied is if she is the one doing it..with children being named after fruit and cheep plonk u could get away with about anything now days lol xxxx
Stick to yr guns an give yr OH a kick up the behind lol x
