Hi.. I'm 37weeks tomorrow and my MIL is SO excited... it's her first grandchild, and she's so up for babysitting etc. However, I am not happy with a baby in her house. She has 5 dogs, they drop hair EVERYWHERE, one of them growls at me every single time I walk in the door (he does calm down after you say hello, but it used to terrify me). I have said to OH about it, but he doesn't seem to see the issue. He says "but your mum has a dog". True enough, my mum does have dog, but its one, not a pack of dogs. I did mention it to my MIL, and she just laughed it off. Besides anything else, I don't want my baby around all that dog hair. I don't know how I'm going to tell her I don't want my baby in her house with all those dogs! She is lovely, we've always got on, she's really gone to town on baby stuff... I REALLY don't want to upset her.
I currently live at home with my parents, am hoping to be out by the time my LO is born, but if im not, we have 3 dogs, and 3 cats! - A Bit of a handful! Im not looking forward to it, especially as our youngest dog constantly jumps up when shes excited! But fingers crossed that i'll be out in the next couple of weeks!
As for my MIL - this will be her 6th Granchild! - she has 3 sons, and this will be my OH's 1st, as his oldest brother has 2 kids and one due this month, and his middle brother has two ! But she doesnt seem excited at all, Never asks how my LO is doing, n just genrally doesnt seem interested! :( x
I have one elder brother and a younger brother and sister none of whom have kids or are expecting so this one (my second) will be my mums 2nd grandchild. It will be my MIL's 13th! My OH (who is a few years older than me) is the youngest of 5 siblings. He has 3 brothers and a sister all of whom have kids of their own that range from 18-1 years old! My MIL said to me the other day (in a joking way) are you going to shut up shop after this one as Christmas is getting expensive! x
Why don't you tell her that you'd rather have your baby looked after in your own home? That way it'll be easier for your baby to keep up his/her routine. If you're worried about how the dogs will behave you're going to have to speak to her about it some time though as you can't leave your baby with dogs that you don't trust, especially when he/she starts crawling.

We have two labs one black and one white, the black one is malting like mad at the moment! Its not so bad now my little girls 4 (plus we restrict where they can go in the house with dog gates) and we hoover at least twice a day. Do your MIL's dogs just malt a lot or does she not hoover enough? If the latter then you could try to find a nice way to suggest she be a bit more stringent with the housekeeping as their will be a newborn soon (I'm not very good at subtle!) Or you could suggest a dog gate that she could use only when your due to come round that way she could shut them in one area and hoover elsewhere very useful for when your LO will be crawling. My MIL has 3 dogs and they get blocked off with a long gate that gives them the run of the conservatory/garden when the younger family members go round. x
