just a quick message to all mums out there that have babies with acid reflux, my daughter suffered with it from about 4 weeks old and was very distressing and hard to watch her going through this at such a young age , it seemed to go on forever and i thought she would never grow out of it because it seemed that bad i couldn't see that happening so i couldn't believe it when she was nearly four months it just stopped just like that! Although a week before it stopped i changed her to sma soya so maybe that had something to do with that as well?? maybe all this time she was milk intolerant?? Who knows i'm just glad it's over and now i've got a happy little girl that sleeps so much better and isn't sick all the time! hope this helps!
My son is now 11 months old but was born three months premature and he had extremely bad reflux. He was on 3 different medications for it including the gaviscon (the dreaded things in the packets that are quite messy to make) and domperidone and ranitidine. None of which I found helped. I stopped giving him the medication and he naturally grew out of it. I was told by my doctor that as long as the baby has lots of fluid to replace what he loses he should be ok. I tried a series of over the counter medications that were recommended but still had no luck. As I said it took a while but they do tend to grow out of it.
My son Jack now 9 months old was diagnosed with reflux at 4 weeks old quite by chance due to a dipping in his chest, we were put on to Rantidine 3 times a day which worked immediatley no more crying in the evenings. We were also given Gaviscon Junior to use only when he was sick during his milk feed which we did.
We are now weening him slowly off the rantidine and using only 2 times a day on half dose which seems to be working
When it came to weening him onto solids I waited till 6 months was hard but worth the wait he loves his food I left him on stage 1 longer than they recommend just to help him have a chance of a healthy non reflux life really, and we still occasionally use stage 1 now. I had no problem with giving him acid drinks but did dilute further to begin with
To anyone with a baby with reflux I hope this advise helps your little one.
Hi, my daughter is now 20 weeks and suffers from reflux. She was put on Gaviscon from about 9 weeks old but this has had little or no effect to the peadiatrician have now increased the amount of this she has and have also described her "domperidone" and "Ranitidine"!!! I have to give her all 3 medicines now so gonna see how much these do. The hospital reckon babies grow out of it and as they start increasing the amount of solids they eat then amount of medicine should decrease. My peadiatrician has also suggested that if in 4 weeks with all this new medicine then he will refer our daughter to a dietician to see if she can on a different formula but I am not sure of the name of this! Does that gaviscon work with your daughter?
