Thanks for all the tips!! I'm getting into more of a routine with my exercise and tring to focus on my tummy!! I've still got the flabby skin and overhang but I THINK it might be getting better. Although, we are planning on having another (in a couple of years) so I'll have to do it all again! I may need another c-section anyway (problems with healing the wound) so I guess it could be worse after another! And yeh, stretch makes are cool :) xx
I had my son over 2 years ago by section. I still have that flabby over hang and i HATE it! My skin is like jelly and you can stretch it all over the place. I'm pregnant again now but have no bump yet. I'm dreading my belly after this one.
gurgle expert Vicky Warr says 'Sounds like you are doing great! The only really effective way to lose the Mummy Tummy is the right kind of exercise and smart, good quality nutrition. Wonder Creams that promise to reduce cellulite and the like, don’t work, despite their claims!
Core exercises specifically targeting all layers of the stomach muscles should be incorporated and using the Swiss Fitness ball is a great way to strengthen and tone those muscles. You also want to check for Abdominal separation by doing the self ‘rec test’. It you have a separation, this would explain a doming effect of the abs, where it feels like your abs still stick out. Leg slides, Planks, side planks and exercises with the Fitness Ball will help. Cardio-vascular exercise is equally important, but as you don’t have much time, interval training is best – this is short bursts (say 60 secs) of a fast pace (running,, swimming, walking, cycling) followed by an active recovery of 60 secs. Repeat for 4 to 6 times, depending on your fitness levels.
With nutrition – this has to be really clean – fresh vegetables, stir-frys and lean protein – fish, chicken, turkey and eggs. Soups and Salads are vital too. Some fruit as snacks and remember keep carbohyrdrates to the high fibre variety. Any white rice, white pasta etc., should be swapped for brown varieties and portion sizes are key – palm size for chicken, cup size for pasta, rice etc. Read my blog, there’s plenty of snack tips.'
well iv jus been 2 docs (couple of wks ago!) been given slimmin tablets that r helpin! totally watch everyfin i eat! i only ave 3 small meals a day! as 4 the ova hang excess skin well my doc is referrin me 4 tummy tuck! since i had my son whos 2 n half n the twins 1omths ago my ova hang wont budge! 1 side of my tummy hangs more than the other grrr! not bothered abt the stretch marks! they pretty groovey lol! xxx
I had my LO 5 and a half months ago by c-section. I was a size 8 before getting pregnant and went up to a size 16. Am now a size 14 and slowly losing weight.
After reading this post i'm scared my overhang won't go.
I'm seriously considering surgery if it's still like this after a year.
As for fitness..i swear by my Wii Fit!!
gurgle expert Fiona Ford says 'Try this exercise to help gradually firm your stomach:
• Lie on your side with your knees slightly bent.
• Let your tummy sag and breathe in gently.
• As you breathe out, gently draw in the lower part of your stomach like a corset, narrowing your waistline.
• Squeeze your pelvic floor at the same time.
• Hold for a count of 10 then gently release.
• Repeat 10 times.
Join a postnatal exercise class. It may help to be with other new mums. Find out if your local maternity unit has a class run by an obstetric physiotherapist, or ask your health visitor about local classes. If you’re going to a class that isn't a special postnatal class, tell the person running the class if you’ve recently had a baby.'
I do excerise but it's not fat/weight - it's skin!! The more weight I lose the worse it looks too lol! Thanks superted, will just give it time and see how I go. We're going on holiday in October with my family and I really want to wear bikinis!! Thanks for the replies xx
