Hi Pammie
My Husband had a vasectomy reversal with Dr Dawson in Hartlepool. He was incredibly kind, profesional and honest. My Husband was 46 at he time and had his vasectomy 14 years before. It took us 9 months to fall pregnant. Our beautiful boy was born in January this year. I had my progesterone levels tested so it's worth doing the basic fertility checks via your GP for you. But fit healthy and non smokers is a great start.
Good luck
Nicola
My partner had a vasectomy reversal also by Dr Dawson in Hartlepool who specialises in microsurgery - this was 7 months ago and to date I have not conceived however if you look at statistics it can take up to 2 years post reversal and my partner’s count is back to normal thankfully. Do not even consider having the operation performed unless it is by means of microsurgery. I would recommned Dr Dawson anyway, his statistics of sucess are excellent and it's just time now hopefully until I fall pregnant.

my husband had his reversal after 12 years but still had immobile sperm therefore we had ivf and icsi, i had also had a myomectomy, and we were both over 40 - and told we were wasting our money in trying but that it was up to us! luckily we tried anyway - and after only one round of treatment when 3 eggs were implanted (having been told our chances were just about zero) we are now proud parents of twins - so as they say "never say never"! good luck.
Hi
My husband had had his vasectomy for 14 years when he had it reversed. He had the full on lengths cut out of the tubes and the ends sown back. After the reversal his count was 2million but went up to 18million over the period of ICSI that we ended up having because it turned out I had PCOS.
During the healing time we followed a healthy diet and he took zinc suppliments. We both feel that this helped. As the quality and mobility of the sperm also improved. Our chances of concieving weren't good but now we have a beautiful daughter, conceived on our second attempt at ICSI.
Friends of ours also had a reversal and she conceived within a month so fingers crossed for you.
Hi
My husband had a vasectomy reversal six years after first having his vasectomy. We were told by the doctor that we had a 60 percent chance of it being sucessful. My husband is over 40. Fortunately for us, I got pregnant one month later. We are so pleased that we went ahead with it. We now have a wonderful 6 month old son.
Hi
My partner had already had a vas when i met him - i was pretty upset as i was desperate for children, he had the vas reversal but it didnt work, however we went onto have IVF/ICSI and the result was our son Zak born last year in July! best thing to happen to us and soooo glad we dint give up.
We started off by looking for good IVF clinics - sadly after one go i became aware that i too had problems which made it difficult for me to respond well to the drugs you take when going through IVF (they give them so you get loads of eggs to use - so for me it was more complicated and took a little longer to achieve a pregnancy - but having said that, that was me and my probs that caused that not my partners sperm quality (which they surgically collected) Good luck with whatever you decide and take each day at a time, it can all seem like too high a mountain to climb but just focus on the end result and you will get there. Try CARE clinics - just google it and go along and have a chat to them - they will explain everything. And yes be prepared for the cost!:)

Hi Pammie!
My partner had a non-scalpel vasectomy with his ex wife just before they split up, and having subsequently met me and we decided we would like more children together, he looked into getting a reversal. We went to Dr Andrew Dawson in Hartlepool for initial consultation & he was lovely - very professional & has a great success rate. Cost us about £4500 & I got to sit in the room & watch the micro-surgery operation being performed which was amazing. This was 1 year after the original vasectomy. We fell pregnant within 3 months, but unfortunately I miscarried so we tried again & were very lucky to catch again within 3 months. Our baby Grace Eleanor was born on 4th November 2007, weighing 6lb 13oz, in our outdoor hot tub using Hypnobirthing.
There are lots of success stories out there, but I agree with Dr Rob - meet some specialists to help you decide. Re: reversal surgeons - check their credentials & success rate stats cos we found quite a few who couldn't back up their claims.
Best of luck!
