when i 1st listened to my baby's heartbeat it was fast like a train and my midwife said she thought it was a girl and going for my 4D scan last week showed me she was a girl but i dont think you should go on what the midwife says just from the heartbeat,i brought neutral until i knew for certain from my 4D what she woould be :)
if its the faster rate is a girl and slower a boy but with my 3rd from the heart rate she should of been a boy!! people say if it sound like a train its a boy if it sound like horses its a girl again my daughter sounded like a train!!!! so maybe she will just be a tom boy!! lol xxx
It's an old wives tale, though midwives did use it years ago as a sign apparently. Baby's heart rate will depend on what it is doing. So if it has been resting/sleeping then it's heart rate will be slower. If baby has been active then heart rate will be higher. Bit like us really, which makes sense to me! :)
My midwife said at my 16 week check that it was too early to tell from the heart rate. The sonographer at 20 week scan said it was all old wives tales about heart rate, size and shape of yr bump, symptoms etc etc. I can definitely vouch for the different symptoms being a load of rubbish, I've had two completely different pregnancies and they are both boys!
i had a little boy in 2008 and his heart beat was a galloping horse,
I spoke to my consultant yesterday and she said after much research they have come to the conclusion that there is no relation between heartrate and gender.... pretty much the same as what I found on the internet and posted earlier. My friend told me her midwife said the same thing to her that the heartrate was slower so she was sure it was a boy, turned out to be a healthy girl! I think for now I will remain sceptical about it x
I'm glad you said that because that's not really the way I want to find out..... and when she said it I did think well my heartrate changes all of the time depending on how stressed I am or how much I have been doing physically... this must be the same for the baby I would have thought. It will be interesting to see how it turns out! x
Different midwives tell you different things. Some say if you gain a lot of weight, and you're really tired but generally even keeled, it's a boy. As where if your skin is a mess, you're very emotional but you have a neat bundle and still posess a waist (!), it's a girl? Was true for me, but nothing applies to everybody!
Whilst it isn't taught, most of the old school midwives (from the times before ultrasound scans!) used to use the heart rate to guess the sex of a child. Although it is NOT 100% certain (but NEITHER is ultrasound!) it IS true that MOST of the time, boys heart beats are slower than girls. Text books may say that the baby's heart rate should be twice the mothers, but again, that is not always true. When I had my son, despite high blood pressure and fast heart rate, my Son's was slow. With my Daughter I was perfectly calm with normal heart rate and hers was racing. Boys are often low 140's or under, whilst girls are usually above this. I don't know why it's true, but I've only ever known one person who was an exception to this rule - she was having twins, one was guessed to be a girl, one was guessed to be a boy - they were both boys, but all these years later, one is gay! Food for thought I'd say!
At the end of the day, a healthy baby - whatever the sex, is all that matters isn't it? And I still believe women's intuition is as reliable as anything else!
When I went to the midwife last, she asked if I knew the gender - I replied that we found out we are having a girl and she agreed as the Foetal Heart Rate sounded like a galloping horse, whereas with boys it is meant to sound like a speeding train...
I'm not sure if this is correct and of it is why they sound different, but it's interesting, I thought.
