Thanks for the advice- I did what you said and let it thaw for 24 hours... then I went out for my 'first night out' without Millie (had to be dragged up the street by my friends as I missed her so much!) All went well as Millie stayed asleep until I got back but had to throw the breast milk away in the end as my husband forgot to put it back in the fridge...gggggrrrrrrrr!!!!
The rule of thumb seems to be, thaw breast milk at room temperature or put it in a bowl of hot water from the tap. Make sure it is fully defrosted before feeding to your baby. Never microwave breastmilk because it creates hot spots that can burn your baby, and the mircowave can destroy the enzymes and vitamins in the breastmilk which are beneficial. Once the breastmilk is thawed, you have 24 hours to use it, but make sure you keep it in the fridge till you use it. Keep it in the main part of the fridge rather than the door which gets opened constantly. Always smell or taste breastmilk before giving to your baby - trust your instincts!
Just quick question.... can you defrost frozen breast milk in a microwave, in hot water or do you have to leave at room temp fo 24 hours- what is safer????
