Hi there!
Flying with a baby is not a problem, as long you plan your trip. Try to travel light, I know is not easy but that is a must. Most the time pepole are very helpful, so ask if you need help! I been travelling with my son since he was 4 month old. Only problem he had was his ears, solution to that was drinking and dummy.
Good luck,
mum to +1 year old jack
I flew with my son when he was 3 months old. It was fine, he slept most of the time and didn't cry once. We now fly 3-4 times a year and he loves it.
My son has been flying since he was 6 weeks and flew from OZ to the UK when he was 3 months. He was on formula so a lot more hastle so breastfeeding will be much better for you.
I flew with Malaysia Airlines and I really liked them - very helpful! Though we did have the old style bassinet like Ticklebug mentioned but as he was 3 months it was fine. Not sure how you fit a 6 month in!
My son did have a couple of big cries (though in 24 hours that is hardly bad!) but you do still get some looks off people so remember not to let it stress you. I think the first time he cried I was in such a rush to calm him down in case anyone for annoyed I made the situation worse. The next time I thought screw it and he settled so much easier.
Good luck and I hope you enjoy your time in Australia! Wish it was me!
Hi, I flew to Oz when my little one was 6 months. Breastfeeding is great for flying - saves the hassle of bottles, formula etc. I flew with Virgin and they were pretty good. I went solo so I was absolutely stressed out. They have much better bassinets now (more like a car seat) with a five point harness that you can leave baby in when the seat belt sign is on. With the older style bassinets you had to take the baby out every time the seat belt sign went on (a huge hassle to disturb a sleeping baby). Make sure you request the bulk head row. My little one slept the whole way to Oz. Not a peep. She was a bit more active on the way home, manageable but not as peaceful as the flight over so make sure you are well rested before you return. Take your own snacks/baby food. And a couple of bottles of cool boiled water for baby. And if travelling alone, don't be afraid to ask for help. I also took my baby sling as it allowed Emma to sleep comfortably on me and left my hands free (it makes it easier for you to doze as well if they are strapped to you).
Good Luck and you will be fine.
has anyone flown with their baby before? I'm planning on going to Oz for Christmas with a 6 month old baby. I'm breastfeeding so won't need any milk etc. Do you think I'll be ok?
