no i've never had that before or known of it thanks for the advise though for future. You shouldn't beat yourself up about not noticing the symptoms, i would of thought it was just the chicken pox too xx
Thanks for your advice. I took my daughter to my GP on Monday & he has referred her to a specialist as semi-urgent. He reckons that the bad weather could be a factor & now that we approach summer that she'll hopefully not get anymore infections. I just want to make sure that her hearing hasn't been affected. If she needs grommits then so be it but fingers crossed she'll not have to go through it.x
I had glue ear as a kid and wasn't operated on until I was 7 (almost totally deaf until then) I had had loads of ear infections and wouldn't eat as everything tasted like cotton wool. I had grommits and had my tonsils and adenoids out too...and I have never looked back. I have not had an ear infection for 23 years and I have perfect hearing. The kids I teach will vouch for that. I was always prone to the cold and throat infections before my operation and I never get anything now. My parents didn't recognise the symptoms either and they are amazing so worry not. Hope your wee one gets sorted out. x
This is in part a response to my previous question on Chicken Pox. Thank you all for your great advice. I kept my daughter of nursery for a few days but she went back yesterday as she seemed more cheerful. I picked her up as usual to find that the staff had cleaned her ear out 6 times due to discharge coming from it. This is the third time in the past few months that this has happened! I took her to the out of hours doctors last night who said that she has Glue Ear. He gave me an antibiotic & advised me to see my own GP as soon as possible as she may need a vent in her ear. I feel so bad that I didn't recognise the symptoms since she's had it a few times (although never told it was called Glue Ear), I just had it in my head that it was Chicken Pox working on her. I read up on Glue Ear there & I'm alarmed that it is more common in children who live in a smoky environment & where bottle fed. On my side & my partners side of the family there are no smokers & I also breast fed her for a few months. She is prone to the cold as I am to so this could be the reason. I have an appointment with my GP on Monday so hope he can put my mind at rest because I have lots of questions for him!! Hopefully this means she won't get the Chicken Pox now, it would be so unfair for her if she did! Has anyone experienced Glue Ear before?
i had glue ear as a child and had 4 operations to fit grommits. these worked when there in and im told by my doctor that they work for most people first time with no problems. I know people who this is the case for.but im a different case as i now where a hearing aid as my hearing was affected. BUT THIS IS UNUSUAL. just talk to your doctor to reasure you.some children dont even need grommits.
