Hi, I have a 6 month old baby boy who refuses to sleep during the day. If I am lucky he may have half an hour in the morning and half an hour in the afternoon. He often gets tired but will not go to sleep. I have tried putting him in his cot, leaving him for 5 minutes and then going back in to comfort him, ive then extended it to 10 minutes, 15 minutes and so on but he just cries and cries and will not go to sleep even though he is obviously tired. He will often sleep while in his pram out walking but does anyone have any ideas for getting him to sleep while at home?

Hi. My daughter has never been that good at sleeping during the day and has never ever slept in her cot for naps. I have tried every trick in the book to get her to go in her cot for naps but to no avail! She too will only sleep for half to an hour twice a day and mostly when we're out in the car or buggy. I have taken to letting her nap in the buggy in the kitchen if we are at home. I put her in it when she's ready for a sleep and rock it until she goes off then leave her in the kitchen and get on with whatever I have to do. Hope this is a little helpful. xx

I'm also having trouble with my lil mans day time sleeping!! He also refuses to sleep for anymore than 20 mins at a time even though he is cleary shattered!! My boy will happily go down in his cot and will drift off to sleep happily with his music light show on but then wakes after 20 mins! He is only having 2 sleeps in the day and I cannot get him to sleep any longer!! I'm gonna just go with the perseverance too... I will keep putting him in his cot at consistant times everyday and hope his sleeping patterns gradually get longer! I do have a black out blind and also put one of those toys on his cot that wraps round the bars so he is occupied in there and nods off when he's whacked!

Hi, perseverence is the key. My son wouldn't sleep at all in his cot during the day but we kept trying about once a week and eventually it just worked. He has a lullaby light show that he has on when he goes to bed and I just switch this on when he goes down during the day as well. Even though he can't see it, he recognises the music and associates it with going to sleep and now he is an absolute angel most days and has started to sleep much longer. He has never slept for very long since he was newborn, only 30-45 min at a time but now that he has got used to this he sleeps for about 1 and a half to 2 hours. He only started sleeping in his cot during the day about 2 months ago and he is 8 and a half months now so there is hope for you!
