How good are TENS machines

hi i have already had a child before and used gas and air and paracetamols! I think I had a pretty well controlled birth, however this time round I have been considering using a tens machine as anyone used one and honestly how good are they? I'm 36 weeks pregnant so need to start thinking about these things!

Thanx that has helped i've now got a machine! I'll give it a go, I was induced 1st time so I've been told that is more painful anyway!! Not so sure bout that tho. If it gets me through the hours then I can't ask anymore lol! Thanx again X
Hi I used the Tens Machine in both my labours and I found it really affective along with the Gas & Air. My first labour was 13hrs and my second was 4hrs. Both times i have used the hospitals Tens Machine. Good luck!

I found that using a TENs machine helped me stay at home longer rather than being stuck in hospital (it was New Years
day!)it was really good at first when the pain was mild.
But as the pain became more intense (it did quickly) i found myself pressing the button at the wrong times and resetting it all the time! I gave up in the end because i felt it wasnt working well enough and i got quite frustrated. I would recommend it for slow labour, I liked to have it there for support, phycologically it put me at ease but it was my first time, I would'nt use one again, i feel that i did'nt do my breathing properly because i was concetrating too much on the TENs machine. I feel breathing techniques are just as good. But my labour was fast and like you only had gas and air. if you do use it, don't expect miracles like i did, hope this helps, Good luck.
