My 7 month old baby refuses to drink water. I've tried various beakers and that's not the problem as he can drink from them as he will have a little taste but then screw up his face and spit it out. I've tried giving him diluted fruit juice too but he won't drink that either. Does anybody have any advice as he is becoming quite constipated and the health visitor says it is because he is not drinking enough water.

Hiya. My daughter has never drunk very much either, she will drink milk at breakfast and bedtime but I'm lucky if she empties one cup of water a day! I've tried various juices and things but with no success. She does best with straightforward cold tap water. My health visitor told me not to worry about it too much, her words were 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink!'. Something that may be worth a try is to add a little water to his solid foods so they are slightly wetter (but not sloppy) and to give him fruit puree pouches (such as cow and gate fruitapura pouches) or fruit smoothies as the natural water content (as well as the fruit fibre) should help with any contipation. Good luck. xxxx

My daughter is 7 months and she has never liked water. She will only drink diluted orange juice from her usual bottle with her normal teat. I did try her on apple juice once but she wasn't as keen. I also found that when she has orange juice it really helps with constipation. Also have you tried blending up fruit and giving it like their normal food? That helps with constipation as well.

My son is 6 1/2 months and he also spits the water out like he really hates it,he hates anything in a beaker but he will drink weak peach juice or orange if he has it bottle with his normal teat.
I think maybe because they are used to teats, but not too sure!!

have you tried having the water slightly warm, my little girl(13 weeks) will only drink it if it is the same temp as her bottle of milk, if it is room temp she wont even attempt to drink it. hope this helps xx

Hi, we initially had this problem with our daughter, we mixed baby yogurt with water, adding a little at a time to make a yogurt drink, she loved it, each time we just added more water to make it taste less like yogurt, from about 12months she has drunk a lot of water, she is now 3years & drinks too much between 2 & 4 litres a day! we have been told to reduce her fluids. our little boy who is now 7months was the same at first, now he will drink some water, but not alot, they will drink if they thirsty,
