I'm feeding my daughter Aptamil first and she's absolutely thriving on it, her weight gain is spot on the curve, however her consumption has changed quite a bit. A couple of months ago she was taking big feeds completely in line with what the box says for her age, but now she's dropped the amount she's taking by quite a lot and gets very cross towards the end of a feed if you try offer her more. I feed on demand (which is usually every 3 to 4 hours) and never give her milk she doesn't want. She's a really happy baby, she's slept through since 2 weeks old and is very contented. But I'd like to know if anyone else has experienced a big drop in the feed amount, I guess for peace of mind! Her smallest feed is now the first feed of the day which is strange as you'd think she'd be hungry after all that sleep!

Thanks everyone. Her weight gain was a bit less this week, and one time she refused more than 40ml and was still hungry ut wouldn't take the milk so I made her some baby rice and she loved it! Told the HV who wasn't best pleased as she said it was too early (she's 4 months) but have agreed I can do it as a trial when she refuses milk.

Artisearle, did your daughter grow out of it, or is she still taking small amounts compared to before?

Does anyone know whether the disinterest in milk could be a sign of being ready to wean? Lucy's just about 4 months old now. Or would she be finishing every bottle ans still be hungry?

Yeah Aleesha makes it known when she does not want any more and the older she gets the stronger she tells me. Dont worry about the feeds, if Lucy seems happy with what she has taken then it will be fine. They are the first ones to say when they are hungry.

Thanks Katie. I find the same thing in the morning. lucy wakes up any time between 7 and 8.30 (goes to bed at 11 too) and she never seems to show any interest in wanting feed, but I usually feed anyway as I'm sure she'll need it as she's been asleep for so long. Maybe I'll start waiting for her to show more signs of being hungry. The first feed used to be her biggest - around 5 to 6oz, but this morning she took about 2oz (last couple of weeks, usually 3 to 4oz), I then topped her up before her morning nap. Its odd as she doesn't seem bothered at all, and is obviously doing well, but her feeds are minimum 3oz maximum 6oz. Does Aleesha get cross towards end of feed, or if you offer her the bottle before knowing she doesn't want any more? As she's going 3 to 4 hours between feeds I'm now not always able to get 5 feeds in without doing a quick top up at bed time, but maybe thats the wrong thing to do.
