My toddler has just learnt the word NO. He says it when I ask him to do even the simplest tasks, like putting his shoes on, or whether he is hungry, thirsty, tired... Even 'shall we go to the park?' which he loves to do is met with a firm NO. he then has a tantrum when I try to make him do something. It's getting very frustrating. Can anyone help? (i'm pregnant and feeling abit stressed by all the NO's!)

have you ever thought why kids first words are no? well im currently doin a parenting course from sure start and thats one of the things we noticed most first words are no because thats what we say to them alot while growning up and its so natural to do we have been trying to stop always saying no and try to say something else insead like instead of no we cant read the book now to say mum just needs to finish .... how about we read a book in 5mins or later but the important thing is if you do say a time limit to stick with it and if they dont agree with what you have said and start to play up try and say something like mum doesnt like that noise i have said we can read the book soon but i need some space to finish.... you might find some helpful tips on familycaring.co.uk. we often give out lots of you messages like your making silly noises but it can be better to use i messages like i think that is a silly noise blame the thing not the child and the child becomes earier to bargain with my 22 month old son is getting the hang of waiting for what he wants if i and busy

dear of you... I think you've just got to work through it - I dont' think he means NO - he's just saying it. You've got to be strong and ignore him and not let him get away with it don't let him get one over on you either. Consistency is the key. a few days of being super strong and you'll be there. :)
