how reliable are ultra sound scans for getting due date??

Mine totally confused me as well, I am 15 weeks as of yesterday, but at my scan (11 weeks) they told me the baby was a week larger then it should be for 11 weeks, but didn't change my due date! So I think of myself as being 16 weeks, even though I am not. I know my dates were spot on as I had written everything down, but I guess babies grow at their own rate!

i think i'l keep my first date in mind then, as there were 2 weeks difference, think i'l call myself 13 weeks pregnant instead of 12! thats why i cant work out how they think going by size is the most acurate way of telling. nevermind, i'm sure it will always be a mystery! Thanks. xx

when i was pregnant with my daughter i had worked out my due date to be 20 jan 2007 that was based on my last period but when i went for my scan they said the baby was small and ended up changin my date to 3rd feb about 2.5weeks of a difference but i kept my date in my mind and just based things on the fact that im only 4ft 11 and my husband is only 5ft 8 so it stands to reason that my baby will be small for the dates and sure enough charlotte was born on 18 jan 2007 nice and healthy at 6lb 4oz and 46cm long. i say keep your date in your mind as a just incase baby comes date so you are ready and if u are closer to the scan date then at least u will be prepared and ready to head to hospital when the time comes.

well i hope thygot mine right now or il be going away for a 2 day break with hubby 3 days before my due date and i dontfancy having baby in skegness
i was reading in a week by week pregnancy book that the 12th week is counted as safe week not 13th so you can relax

I saw midwife at what i thought was 10 weeks, going by first day of last period she said i was 10 weeks and 6 days, went for my scan nearly two weeks after thinking i was 12 weeks and 5 days and was told that i was only 10 weeks and 4 days. i was quite upset as i thought i was out of that 12 week at risk stage but now i've got another week to go till i am. so my due date has changed from the 7th feb to the 21st feb. what also anoyed me is that i dont get another scan till the 20 week stage. really want one at 12 weeks just to make sure everything is still ok. also, if babies grow at different rates, why do they think that a scan is the best way of working out the dates?!?

hi, when i found out i was pregnant i got 2 see my midwife a week later she then said i was 8 weeks and due the 10th june 08 then i went for my first scan and should have been almost 12 weeks but i was 10 weeks and 3 days and due date the 17th june 08 my son was born 28th june 08 weighing 8lb 3oz but 2 days after my due date i had a membrane sweep and the doctor said that i was 1cm dilated but he didnt come til 9 days after that so i guess we will never no. xx

my first scan which i had at 8 weeks to make sue i wasn't having an eptopic pregnancy said the 15th of august last period says 3rd of august and the 12 week scan which i had as normal said 10th and thats the date they've stuck with

based on my LMP I would be due end of august. Based on the first missed period I would be due 22nd of September... the scan shows baby is due 3rd October and that is the date they are sticking to, this is based on the size and development of the baby and is liable to vary by 2weeks either way. Added to that, it's less accurate after 12weeks and from then on is only used as a growth and development indicator in the main.

I am now quite relaxed about all this and am convinced baby will be here end of Sept but either way, she will come when she is ready and I will have to deal with it then! no puttin it off eh?! Plus I rather they give me a later date, less chance of induction then!
