Hi i work for one of the largest baby retailers in the country and i know why these warnings are there. Under no circumstances should you use a cot bumper after a baby is even a little bit mobile in case they get strangled by the ties, or press themselves so close to it that they overheat. Cots are designed so that babies hands and feet will NOT get stuck if you dont use one, and a child will quickly learn not to bang his head on the bars if he hurts himself. Most health professionals will also tell you not to use a cot bumper at all. i have two children and neither of them has had a bumper on their cot. i am glad to see that you did at least read the warning and notice it though as i think they are too small, have you also noticed that cot quilts are 12mths plus? this is because they are too hot for smaller babies! SAFE SLEEPING!!
Hi there,
all the literature that I have read advises against cot bumpers altogether as it is possible for babies to roll against them and overheat or worse. Once they are older they can get tangled in them. I would leave it out of the cot. They look lovely but are too dangerous.
I left my son's cot bumper in until he was about eight months, he started standing about this time and managed to climb out of his cot using this!!! he still wriggles about alot and keeps sticking his feet out of the bars but has never hurt himself doing this.

Does anyone know why on the tags to the cot bumper i used for my babies crib it says "bumpers should be removed once baby can sit unaided"? My son is 7 1/2 months old and has slept in his own cot for about 3 months now. At first he slept in pretty much the same position but now he wriggles all over the place and is starting to bang himself against the sides. I haven't bought a cot bumper for his cot yet... should I? Does everyone else use cot bumpers despite what the tag says? the crib bumper i have is from mothercare. thanks

I found when I dropped my cot down the bumper wasn't easy to attach so I left it out and rolled up a towel and put it under his fitted sheet alond the side of the cot, just to stop him hitting the sides... This worked really well... He's now 10 months and I don't use anything.
