Hi, I've had two children and with my first, I went to the toilet before I was in established labour so that wasn't an issue for me. My labour progressed very well and was bearable right upto the point of his head coming out (you want truth, well here it is) at that point I honestly felt like the midwife had a blow torch on my personal bits, but she said I had to push past that and as soon as the head was out that burning sensation disappeared straight away, yes you feel tender after but having your beautiful baby in your arms you really don't care about the pain you've just been through. My second birth I felt was a little more traumatic (for me) as I was only in established labour for ten minutes - I hear people saying lucky cow, but believe you me I would not want that birth again as it was like being hit with a sledge hammer - the contractions were more intense and as soon as one finished another one began, I felt like I was losing control of my breath. With 2nd children and more you also get afterpains which make you believe you've got more to come, but they only lasted a couple of hours which weren't too bad I suppose.
Every birth is different and if you can be as relaxed as you can and concentrate on giving birth, not who's in the room, whats happening down below - it's an experience you never forget but equally as amazing. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be fine
I didn't do this but some people do. I really wouldn't worry about it, the midwives and staff have seen it all before You will be so focused on everything you wont care anyway... just prepare you partner and he should be adult enough to understand these things happen.
