Hiya i too have been wondering about the follow on milk as my daughter is approaching 6 months, i asked my health visitor and another mum at baby clinic about it today and she said it's basically a way for the milk companies to make more money as they can advertise themselves for follow on milks on tv etc (as they are not allowed to advertise first stage milks). She said that the first stage milks contain enough iron etc in them and you shouldn't have to change, also that the follow on milks are sweeter and contain more calories so if you change when weaning it might fill them up more and not make them want the food as much. Follow on milks can also cause constipation. All that said i don't think there is a right or wrong way and you should just do whatever suits you and your son best. Does that help? Good luck...we've only been weaning a week and all her food still comes straight back out on her tongue lol!! x

Hi,the reason they say to give a baby follow on milk from 6 months is because at around that age,the iron stores that they have had since birth have run out.The follow on milk has got added iron in it unlike the 1st milk. iron is very important for a babys development. Hope this helps.
