Hi all. This is my first proper post so I hope I'm using this forom right! Here goes with my big Q: My baby-girl was quite small when born and had to be fed up when she was young and after a short while she fed with no problems and put on lots of weight. Before she started on solids she was having about 5 lots of 8 oz a day. I started her on a meal and pudding a night (minus 1 feed)and eventually replaced the second morning feed with baby cereal too. Now shes just 7 months and i can only get about 15 oz per day down her. Theres no chance of her starving (shes a chubby little thing) but I'm worried she might not be getting enough iron if this carries on. I should mention she's still on SMA white(for hungrier babies) and she has had her bottom 2 teeth for a little while now and has been whinging alot whilst usually shes a happy baby. The only reason I'm not sure its to do with teething is that she seemed off her milk even before the whinging. The question is how worried should I be, what am I doing wrong and what can I do? Any help with this would be so much appreciated before I REALLY start to worry :o) Thanx very much, Tiff xxx

Hey everyone, I have the same problem with my 8 month old daughter. She won't drink any milk at all from a bottle, so I use cereals that use milk to mix them so I can get at least one bottle's worth of milk into her every day. She has a bowl of cereal made with milk in the morning, large savoury jar along with a small pudding jar, fruit pot or yohgurt at lunch time, and the same at dinner time. She will drink lots of juice throughout the day, especially when she is tired, and drinking the juice gets her off to sleep. I have tried to swap the juice for milk when she is almost asleep but she turns it away, she still does this even when asleep, but will accept the juice no problem! I still try to give her the bedtime bottle but she refuses it every time, even when she is really wiped out and desperate to sleep. I believe she is getting enough food throughout the day and just doesn't need the bottle as she isn't hungry, but it doesn't stop me worrying she's not getting all the nutrients she needs. She has milk in her breakfast and she eats yohgurts, but is this enough?

THANK YOU so much guys. You dont know how much better you've all made me feel. My baby-girl's still doing the same thing - infact this morning she would only have 5 oz for her first bottle!// Isabelle, I'm not sure if it's just my girl but she wouldn't drink at all while dozing. She used to a little bit but wont work anymore unfortunately, although sometimes 10 mins kip mid-feed sometimes helps getting another oz down her.// At the weekend I got lots of Little stars fromage frais 60g pots - thanx for that idea. I was just wondering what the equivalent of say 1 50/60g pot of fromage frais would be in milk? Also, has anyone got any ideas of what else I could do to get more into her on the days she wont take much milk?// My daughter gets about 40-60 ml of water every day. Does that sound about right anyone? Can you give milk as the drink with meals if they take it? And lastly, at 7 months can she have normal semi-skimmed milk that I have?// Thanx again ladies xxx
hello, i breastfed my son till 11 month when i had to wean him off he wouldnt take formula milk as he didnt like the taste, the only way he had it when i flavoured it with banana, he still has it now . I would not recommend giving her semi skimmed milk as children before the age of five need to have full fat milk because of the additional fat it contains compared with semi-skimmed.

my baby is now 11months and HV is watching her because shes only on the 9th centile however since weaning she only has 1 bottle of milk a day at bedtime maybe 6oz and not even everyday which concerned me so i asked and HV insisted a baby needs 15oz milk only on a day after 7mnths and this is counted in any dairy food yoghurt cereals cheese etc that they have so even if she isnt drinking the milk she will still be getting the milk she needs as long as baby is happy and healthy dont worry fluids can be any drink my baby loves juices now and its just me that would like her to have more milk shes doing great

hello i have got a 4month old and i had to start weanin her at 14weeks as she wouldnt take her milk very well, and wouldnt sleep through the night, she now only has 7oz bottle at 6 mayb 2oz at din 4oz at 4 and 7oz at 8pm thats if am luckly, she just wants to eat all the time, i wouldnt worry 2much as long as she getting enough fluids, having lots of wet nappies and is happy, and putin weight on not loosing it, she will only drink wot she wants too, this is my second child and my 1st would drink like 5oz of fluids all day, she just wasnt interested in milk, shes now 2 and she is a healthy 2yr old.

I can't be much help but my son is 7 and a half months and is doing the same thing! He used to have breakfast and then a morning bottle, then lunch and an afternoon bottle and then tea and a bedtime bottle. This would be his 20oz which I was told he was supposed to have 20oz a day. Last fri he messed with the afternoon feed then eventually had it but then he had tea and was full up and only had 2oz instead of the usual 8oz at bedtime. I kept offering usual feeds but he's just not interested anymore in the milk. I've now cut the afternoon bottle out and try and give cereal that mixes with milk and give him a fromage frais as one of his puds-this way I get in a few ounces extra. I only offer him 8oz on a morning (first thing as I find this is when he will drink the most and I now give the cereal at 10am ish, its a bit late for brekkie but this is the only way I can get the milk down him!) and I offer another 8oz at bedtime-sometimes he only has 4oz and thats enough. He is eating 3 meals withm and having puds and I give juice in with meals but he just doesn't seem to want it. He is only on SMA Gold but I was told this was fine to leave him on until he is 12m if he's happy with it as its closer to breastmilk and I breastfed him until a month ago. He still sleeps for 11hrs straight through at night so I don't think I should worry. You could try speaking to your HV but I'm a bit reluctant to speak to mine incase they moan that he isn't getting enough milk! I can't force it into him and on the occassion that he does drink up to the 20oz he brings it back up as he didn't really want it. Babies won't starve themselves so as long as they seem healthy and still getting 4-5 wet nappies a day I don't think we should panic too much.
