Hello, My baby boy is now twenty seven weeks old. During the night he wakes up about 2 to 3 times, he starts crying and I have to rush in to his bedroom and give him his dummy so that he can fall back to sleep. I read in a book that I have to let him cry till he falls back to sleep alone or else he will never learn how to sleep by himself when he wakes up during the nights. Is that true? Not even when he will become one year old? Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi my little one is 10 and half months and we were the same rushing in every time he cried and cuddling him unitl he fell asleep. Big mistake, he would wake up 3 - 4 times a night and because we both work the easyist thing was to bring him into our bed. Were now trying control crying where when he wakes and starts screaming we'll leave him for 5 mins then go in and stroke his head and play the musical lullaby thing. Try not to pick him up as he will become dependant on having you there to fall asleep. If he starts to cry leave again for 5 mins and let him cry it out, after 5 mins go back in and shush him again, in the end he will cry so much he will tire himself out and fall alseep in his own. We'vwe been doing this for a week and owen only wakes up once a night and then we leave him to it and sometimes he falls asleep on his own and others he needs shushing after 5 mins but its working. i know the first few times you do it, it really rips at your heart hearing him scream but its worth doing it now while he's still really young. i wish i had.
