Hello everyone, me and my other half really want to call our little girl (when we have a girl) Gypsie, everyone weve asked says they like it but my dad basically told me it was a bloody stupid idea and that she would get picked on all the way through school, i realise kids can be nasty but am i right in thinking that it doesn't matter what you call your children, other kids will always find something nasty to call them if they want to? mum and dad called me vanessa, all i got all the way through school was 'lock ness monster' might not sound too bad but gets anoying after the third time of hearing it! my other halves family are half irish gypsy and most of them (not his immediate family) still live in their caravans over there, it's certainly the way of life we'd love to live, both being very much outdoor people and love the simpler way of living. thinks thats why we love the name so much. do i just tell dad to mind his own business as it's really nothing to do with him, obviously though in a politer way!!?

Gypsie is gorgeous, if you are worried about her getting teased you could change the sound a bit although i don't know how. Otherwise you could call her Heather! but i still think gypsie is gorgeous. I would just not say anything else about the name to him until shes born and announce it and then he will have to get used to it!

Thanks Barbara, we really have fallen in love with the name, first of all we thought of sky but someone said the word gypsy one day and me and jon both looked at each other and said that's the one! only with an ie on end instead of y. we had loads of boys names sorted out too but half of his family and friends have used them so we have to think of more now! Shay is a boys name we like but were a bit stuck on another one that will go with it in case were having twin boys that are in his family, any ideas?! find out at scan on wednesday hopefully! your right about dad too i think, once he knows thats what it will be, he'll learn to love it and not have it any other way!
We had a boy Owen and at first couldnt decide i liked kyle for a boy of Kyra for a girl. My other half didn't like kyle so we looked at Joshua (josh) Andrew, all the original names but couldn't decide so with about a week before i was due we choose Owen for boy or Kyra for girl depending cause little one wouldn't show its bits on scan!!! Typical boy!!!
I wanted a name no-one else had and decided owen was it!! Sky is really nice aswell. Dads are dads and want everthing their way but he will give in as soon as he sees the little one!!!!

If thats the name you love so much go for it. I think its really lovely and no-one will call her for it. Your dad has his opinion but will love it once you have a little girl!
