Hiya, i'm going back to work in september which will mean my daughter (who will be 10 months at that time) will be in nursery for 3 days during the week. I had no concerns about this until my mum mentioned that it was too soon and that i should at least wait until she is walking to go back to work, since she has said this it's been on my mind constantly and wondering is she right is my daughter too young to be in nursery??? The nursery itself is wonderful and i can't fault it whatsoever so i have no problems there, so are there any mums out there that have gone through this or are going through this and are feeling as awful as i am???

Hi, I go back to work in 3 weeks full time. My little boy will be 9 months old and in full time nursery. He is my third so I know the benefits of nursery in his development. With my other 2 boys I went back to work when they were 6 months old so at least I have had an extra 3 months with the latest. I know he will cry some of the time and it will be heartbreaking but I also think it does children a lot of good. They develop faster and you also get the added advantege of experienced help for all those little problems that come along. Don't feel guilty.

Hi. Sounds like we are in exactly the same situation. Going back to work in September. My daughter will be 10 months by then. No choice about going back to work ... need the money! Lucy will be going full time, term time only (i'm a primary school teacher) was a bit worried but think i've talked myself into the fact that she will be given experiences which i cannot provide for her ... being with lots of other children, increasing confidence and independence etc. Definately me that has the separation anxiety issues, not my daughter! Stop feeling so bad about it, put a smile on your face and let her enjoy herself!

Hi I'm currently in the process of looking at nurseries for my daughter. I have to go back to work in December, and she'll be 9 months, and believe me i know exactley what your going through. I have hummed and ahhh about leaving my little darling, and if i had a choice i wouldnt be doing so!!! She'll be going for two full days a week. I try to look at all the positives...for instance, it will be good for her to be with other children, my friends two children went to the nursery we have choosen and said they have come on leaps and bounds. All i'm going to do is keep visiting the nuresry every couple of weeks for an hour with my daughter then it wont come as much as a shock, to her or me!!! and the nursery has agreed to a three week 'breaking in' period, although the manager did joke it would be harder for me than the Ellie!!!

hi amanda,

thanks for response, been doing the same thing really just focusing on the positives and not get bogged down by thoughts like 'what if she cries and needs her mummy!' etc..... i just have to see it as she would react the same even if she was being looked after by her mum ,dad etc plus it helps if i say to myself it not a nursery she's just going to the babysitter! doesn't sound so official! good luck with Ellie , sure she'll love nursery x
