There does not appear to be any evidence to show that epilating or waxing is unsafe in pregnancy. Many women continue their usual regular waxing or epilating programme. However it may not be advisable to start waxing or epilating for the first time during pregnancy. This is because your skin may become more sensitive than usual during pregnancy. Therefore it is advisable to re-test your usual depilatory product on a small area first. Always read the directions on any new brands that you buy for home use, and remember to tell beauty therapists you are pregnant if you go to a salon for hair removal. If in doubt shaving is a quick and safe method of hair removal though not always the easiest later on in pregnancy!
Hi Caroline, I epilate my under arms and legs and have done for over 5 yrs now, i guess you would just have to play it by ear. It doesn't even hurt anymore as i have doen it for so long and the hair is so weak now, maybe that will change with pregnancy, but i was just planning to see how it goes. Good luck, let me know how you get on as it interserting for me when i fall pregnant. take care Amy
Hi, when I was pregnant I had a full leg and bikini wax - ooh it hurt and bled a bit. Apparently your hair gets stronger and roots deeper. This will probably be the same when you epilate.
Hi all, I am a new mum to be and only 7wks pregnant :)
I want to know if I can epilate during pregnancy as in the instruction manual it claims you cannot.
HOWEVER...I have epilated for years from the age of 19 to present, 27!!
Any advise would be much appreciated, as I personally do not like to shave. I epilate my lower legs, underarms and bikini line.
It also states you cannot epliate if you have a heart condition, I have an irregular heart beat (WPW) and it has never effected me, so perhaps they just cover their own backs!!!
Sweet Regards Caroline x x
