i cant believe they have been so dismissive of you you have every right to have things checked. im currently 34weeks with my second child i had no problems with my first child but this time round i have had severe pelvis pains which has meant i had to take my maternity leave early and ive had stomach pains etc. most times when i ring up to see my gp they will do a small scan on the machine they have which is old but can check the basics so that helps me. i had bad stomach pains and rang the doc on call who told me to go to a&e where i was left sitting for 45mins to be told i would have to go to the hospital i was having the baby in as they had no equipment or staff to help if i was in labour so i had to travel to the big hospital to a&e and because i was more than 26weeks they sent me straight to delievery suite where they did scan and a track to monitor the babys heart beat so im glad ive had so much support from my gp midwife and hospital so there is no reason for yours to treat you like this and you have every right to ask for scans and shouldnt have to wait for anything and if your not happy complain make them realise that you arent happy and want them to do more. after 24weeks i think u should get more support as anytime after that labour can start but if you arent getting anywhere ring your delievery department at the hospital and they should help
i totaly agree with elainecook about the medical profession being dismissive of pregnant women!
i had a misscarriage in may at 4 months.
i was told i was able to take a tablet right there and then to go into labour but then they decided to send me home for a few days then go back to take my tablet then to return home for 3 days just to go back to the hospital to deliver my baby.
it was absolutely heartbreaking knowing i was still carrying my baby around who was no longer alive.
i dont think they take into account to how we're feeling its just what suits them
I had bad experience with A&E while I was 4 months pregnant with my 2nd, I was on a flight back from Spain when I started getting really bad pains, so bad that I couldn't get comfy in any position and paracetamol didn't touch it. We went straight to A&E from the airport where I was told by some junior doctor (who I think was scared of pregnant women) that I had a water infection. He gave me a prescription (which I couln't get filled til the next morning as it was late at night) and told to take some paracetamol. The next morning I was green, couldn't keep anything down and was writhing around in pain, my husband took me to our GP, who took one look at me and sent me to Central Delivery, where a very nice (mother of 4) midwife filled my leg with pethadine. I had to stay in hospital for 5 days and have 5 litres of fluids through an IV. Turns out I had gallstones, which is worse than labor pains and I could have avoided the hospital stay and IV and 5 days away from my 20 month old if the doctor at A&E had taken me seriously. I advise all my pregnant friends, call the midwife first and if she doesn't listen go to delivery suite where they have all the equipment to look after you properly. Sorry to go on, its a bit of a long story!!

I don't really want to change my Gp as i've ben with them for over 10 years & the surgery is convient to where i live but i just felt so frustrated that no-one seemed to care!!
I went for my scan nealy 2 weeks ago now & everything was fine but it still doesn't stop you worrying!!

I must admit I find the medical profession ( especially A&E) very dimissive of pregnant women. I remember when I was pregnant in early 2006 I had a bleed at 10 weeks half way round a supermarket. I went straight to A&E and thhey did a cursery exam and said I had to wait 4 days for a scan appointment. During that time the bleeding got worse and clots appeared. My husband rang the hospital but they said I had to wait for the appointment. The scan showed I was having a miscarriage and they asked if I wanted a D&C or wait for nature to take it's course. I went for the D&C to get it over with. I felt the hopital didn't care and I suffered for 4 days unnessesarily.
No not at all, i think its probably best if u change doctors! And when u do explain to the people at the new doctors why u left your previous surgery so that they can understand how worried you are. I also try and get in touch with your midwifes boss and complain and say that u wasnt happy with how you've been treated, its important to do this because they may be doing it with other patients aswell. I'd definately change doctors tho, i think its the best thing u can do, the 1 ur at is obviously rubbish! Hope ur ok and that ur scan went ok x x x
Hi all,
i don't know if it's me but i've been complaining to my midwife & Gp for almost a week now about severe stomach cramps!!
The midwife didn't seem interested & told me to contact my Gp which i did & he agreed to see me 4 days after my initial complaint, in the space of them 4 days the stomach cramps got much worse to the point where i couldn't move, so i had to go to A&E where they said i had a urine infection & prescribed anitbiotics!!
I've had to go back to A&E 2 days later cos i had some bleeding but the doctor there didn't seem all that bothered until i insisted that the doctor contact the Gynae dept & see what they suggest!!
I'm now going for a scan on friday due to me being persistant with doctor saying i wanted it throughly checked out!!
Has everyone else had any problems like this??
Do you think i'm over-reacting??
