Hi. I had my first scan two days ago which went well. Other than, the sonographer was having trouble obtaining the reading of the fluid at the back of the baby's neck. To get this I went through rather painful prodding and basically what can only be described as pummeling. The lady told me to 'relax my tummy please' which I found very hard to do as it was painful. My tummy now feels very tender which I can feel when I walk. I have also noticed this morning that I have a bruise there. My first concern is the baby, as I have no movement yet I feel like I need reasurrance that everything is ok and secondly, should she have been that rough with me to obtain this very important test result. No other options were explained to me and I feel a bit concerned now. I would appreciate your views and perhaps you could advise me if you think I should see my midwife or if I am making a mountain out of a molehill!!! Thank you.

Hello, as others have advised, i'm sure the baby is fine but maybe you should write to the dept regarding her manner. I'm a staff nurse and have to be professional at all times. If you'd been made to feel that you couldn't speak up to her at the time, i would call her intimidating and would also describe you as being uninformed. she was definately wrong and if she finds her job mundane or boring, then this should not have been taken out on you. other women will go through the same if you don't speak up.

good luck.

I have my first scan today, which was really exciting but they never told me anything about measurements behind the baby's neck or let me listen to the heartbeat, they just said evrything was ok & that the baby was very active & moving around a lot as they had a bit of trouble trying to obtain measurements!!

Hi, I will be honest, I have never had this sort of thing happen to me and my daughter is 8 months old now, but i felt the need to reply. Hope thats ok.

I was exactly the same as you, didn't want to cause a fuss but one bit of advice i was given when pregnant is never be afraid to ask, no matter how small, even if you feel silly never brush it under the carpet. It is your baby and you have every right to feel the way you do. (It never stops even when babys here!)
If you don't ask you will continue to be worried. It does become alot less of a worry when you start to feel your baby move tho. Im the biggest worrier in the world!
She has odviously been far to rough, put please get checked out, just for a chat and peace of mind. Take care
Thanks for replying. I did phone the midwife and she suggested that the woman had been too rough but basically the baby would be fine as it is in sack of water and very small at the moment. I feel much more reasured now thanks. I can't wait to start feeling movement. This is my third baby so I should not be so worried but I've had a six year gap so feel a bit out of it!!!
Hope things are progressing well with your baby - thanks for replying x

You should go and see your midwife, i recently came across a sonographer that wasnt very nice and i was told by a sonographer to put it all in writing exactly what happened and how she made me feel, and then to send it to the main department of the antenatal clinic. Im sure ur baby is fine tho, its still very small in one big sack and any pressure in one area of the sack would of moved him or her to the other side! Not only that but ur baby is protected by fluid in ur stomach, altho she was a rough and dont think she wud of done anything to harm ur baby. Hope ur ok x x x
